Description
Yohito Sakamaki is the head coach of the Yokohama Taiei High basketball team. Hailing from Hiroshima Prefecture, he brings extensive coaching experience from various Japanese middle and high schools. Sakamaki himself played competitive basketball in his youth, recalling a dramatic comeback where his team overturned a 20-point deficit in the final ten minutes of a game.

Within three years under his guidance, Yokohama Taiei High reached the national level of the Inter-High tournament and secured a place among Kanagawa Prefecture's top five teams. Sakamaki's coaching style emphasizes intense, demanding practice sessions, leading to a high dropout rate among new players unable to sustain the pace. Despite this rigor, he actively provides playing opportunities to first and second-year students during practice matches, demonstrated by his inclusion of players like Mineta and Yozan.

During games, Sakamaki maintains a strategic perspective, making calculated decisions such as substituting key player Shiraishi with freshman Fuwa Hyou in a critical quarterfinal to disrupt the opponent's rhythm – a move initially misinterpreted by observers as underestimation. He demands focused participation, correcting players' attitudes mid-game, as seen when he urged Fuwa to concentrate after momentary lapses. His philosophy explicitly rejects underestimating opponents; he states he has never adopted such an approach, regardless of an opponent's stature.

Talent recruitment is part of his role, illustrated by his attempt to recruit Kenji Natsume from Kuzuryū High after observing him play, though the offer was declined. Sakamaki also maintains personal connections within basketball circles, including a longstanding friendship with Yuka and Tomohisa Kurumatani.

His surname Sakamaki combines "sake" (alcohol) and "maki" (scroll/volume), while his given name Yohito derives from "ko" (call/invite) and "to" (person).
