Movie
Description
Fuyunyan, also known as Hovernyan in some localizations, is a cat-like Yo-kai who plays a significant role in the movie Yo-kai Watch: Enma Daioh to Itsutsu no Monogatari da Nyan. He is a member of the Brave tribe, a classification of Yo-kai known for their courageous and chivalrous nature. In terms of appearance, Fuyunyan is a blue-furred cat Yo-kai with a white chest, muzzle, and the tips of his paws. He has dull pink ears and nose, and a distinctive white scar in the center of his forehead. His most notable accessories are a long red cape and a dull grey belt with a swirled spherical buckle. Unlike many cat Yo-kai, he is usually seen hovering in the air rather than walking on the ground.
Fuyunyan possesses a very righteous and heroic personality, driven by a strong sense of justice and a desire to protect others. He is intensely loyal, especially to those he considers friends, and is known to act patiently when necessary, even waiting for decades to fulfill an important mission. However, this patience can sometimes run thin, and he can lose focus on a given task after a long period. Despite his serious and brave demeanor, he also has a more playful and childish side. For instance, he has been seen creating his own sound effects when demonstrating a special item, which shows a less formal and more enthusiastic aspect of his character. He can also show signs of embarrassment, particularly regarding some of his less flattering transformations, such as when he becomes the swollen Meganyan.
Fuyunyan's history is deeply rooted in the origins of the Yo-kai Watch. He shares a profound bond with Keizo Amano, the grandfather of the main human character, Nate (Keita in the original Japanese). In the past, Fuyunyan and a young Keizo worked together to protect the world from the evil Wicked Yo-kai, a partnership that led to the creation of the first Yo-kai Watch. Fuyunyan is fiercely devoted to Keizo, viewing him as a close friend and partner in the style of a heroic duo. He carries this loyalty into the present day with Nate, Keizo's grandson, whom he also trusts deeply, though Nate is sometimes less enthusiastic about being cast as the sidekick in Fuyunyan's heroic fantasies.
In the narrative of Yo-kai Watch: Enma Daioh to Itsutsu no Monogatari da Nyan, Fuyunyan is part of the main cast helping to resolve a crisis in the Yo-kai World. The overarching plot involves a plot by the antagonist Zazel to sever the bonds between humans and Yo-kai. Fuyunyan, alongside Nate and other Yo-kai like Jibanyan and Whisper, investigates the disturbances in the Yo-kai World caused by these events. His role is that of a powerful and reliable ally, using his combat skills to battle antagonists and protect his friends. The movie culminates in a final battle where Fuyunyan and his allies confront the villains to restore balance.
Regarding his abilities, Fuyunyan is a capable combatant with several notable powers. He is an expert in hand-to-hand combat, often using punches imbued with wind energy in attacks like his signature "Gutsy Cross Paw". His wind attribute allows him to perform techniques such as the Tornado attack. As the name Hovernyan suggests, he has the ability to fly. He can also fire balls of energy or shroud his fists in it for more powerful strikes. One of his most remarkable powers is his ability to transform. By consuming a large amount of air, he swells up into a large, mushroom-covered form called Meganyan, which has its own unique abilities like shooting electricity. More significantly, by channeling the collective strength and friendship of other Yo-kai, Fuyunyan can transform into a much more powerful and grittier version of himself known as Darknyan. In this form, his fur turns black, his cape becomes dark blue, and his combat abilities, such as his claw attacks, are greatly enhanced.
