Description
Citron is the Lumiose City Gym Leader in the Kalos region, specializing in Electric-type Pokémon. He possesses a strong aptitude for science and invention, frequently creating mechanical devices housed within his backpack, known as the Clemontic Gear. These inventions include a grappling tool called the Aipom Arm, though they often malfunction or explode unexpectedly. He maintains a calm and analytical demeanor during Pokémon battles, capable of identifying opponent weaknesses and formulating strategies.
He travels alongside Satoshi, Serena, and his younger sister Eureka. He deeply cares for Eureka, showing a protective streak towards her safety and well-being, though he becomes visibly embarrassed by her attempts to find him a romantic partner. His bond with Satoshi involves mutual respect forged through training battles, believing their journey together strengthens his capabilities as both a Trainer and Gym Leader. He cooperates with Serena on tasks like meal preparation and shares responsibility for Eureka’s care during his temporary absences.
His Pokémon team includes Luxray, first encountered as a Shinx; their bond was temporarily strained by a childhood misunderstanding but later restored. Bunnelby, encountered stealing fruit, joined him after assistance and later evolved into Diggersby. Chespin displays independence, sometimes causing minor annoyance. Dedenne typically remains outside its Poké Ball with Eureka. Magnemite, Magneton, and Heliolisk often remain stationed at the Lumiose Gym.
During the journey involving the Mythical Pokémon Diancie, he deduces that thieves pursue her due to her diamond-creating abilities. He utilizes his Aipom Arm during an escape sequence in a shopping mall, launching it to help Satoshi reach Diancie. Later, he employs it again to pull his companions away from an attack by the thief Ninja Riot’s Greninja, enabling Dedenne to counterattack. He shares his knowledge of Kalos lore with the group, explaining Xerneas’s life-giving abilities to Diancie. When Diancie expresses guilt over endangering the group, he reassures her about the mutual support inherent in friendship.
His role as Gym Leader was temporarily managed by a robot substitute named Clembot, which he created and programmed. A malfunction caused Clembot to rigidly enforce Gym rules, initially barring even him from entering. He later defeated Clembot in battle and reprogrammed it to include compassion and flexibility before resuming his journey. He eventually agrees to a future Gym battle against Satoshi upon meeting badge requirements.
