Description
Shion Kiba hails from considerable wealth, initially devoted to fencing until discovering Vanguard through a damaged "Tough Boy" card from a fencing peer. This led him to a card shop where a vision of planet Cray’s Blue Sky Knight, Altmile ignited his passion for cardfighting.

Politely calm and socially adept, Shion contrasts with rival Chrono Shindou. His affluent background doesn’t diminish selflessness—he once gifted Chrono a hard-won quest reward. Yet beneath his composure simmers intensity; after losing to Chrono, he masked fury behind a smile. Unyielding pride and determination make him steadfast in decisions. Crushing defeats by Shouma Shinonome or Ace occasionally drive him to consider quitting Vanguard, though Chrono often intervenes. He displays limited awareness of his privilege, expressing shock that most lack auction-worthy heirlooms.

The GIRS Crisis reshapes him: Ace orchestrates a takeover of the Kiba company, manipulating their cardfight to undermine Shion’s credibility with staged phenomena and revealing his uncle Utsugi’s betrayal. Defeated, Shion loses his inheritance and independence. Training under Toshiki Kai during a storm, he endures repeated losses, adopting Kai’s speech quirk of adding "the" to phrases. He abandons reliance on family status, focusing solely on personal strength and strategy. This period exposes his vindictiveness—learning of Shouma’s role in Ace’s schemes, he assaults him violently, requiring Kouji Ibuki’s restraint. He nurses lasting grudges, refusing forgiveness to Am Chouno despite her remorse.

Regaining his heir status in Stride Gate, Shion reveals manipulative tendencies, coercing Rin Hashima into his U20 team by leveraging Mamoru Anjou’s presence and blocking her resignations.

During G NEXT, Team TRY3 disbands. Shion revives Fukuhara High’s near-dormant Vanguard Club with president Henri Hayao and ex-Demise member Rin Hashima. His rivalries with Chrono and Tokoha Anjou escalate as they form separate U20 Championship teams. His record includes victories over Chrono, Henri, Rin, and Taiyou Asukawa, countered by losses to Chrono and the unit Shiranui.

He wields Royal Paladin decks centered on Altmile. Early builds struggled with Holy Dragon, Saint Blow Dragon’s boost-unit consistency, later enhanced by "Brave" skills and Techgal. Deck evolution continued:
- **G Season 3/Stride Gate:** Focused on Brave skills and the G unit Blazing Sword, Fides.
- **G NEXT:** Prioritized Brave units like Holy Dragon, Brave Lancer Dragon and Knight of Heavenly Decree, Altmile for counterblast-free power boosts, using hand-rushing tactics to trigger Brave early.
- **Later Seasons:** Incorporated Higher Deity Knight, Altmile and Immortal Holy Sword, Fides, shifting to defensive openings and aggressive endgames where Fides forced multi-card guards on Brave-unit attacks.

His battle philosophy overwhelms opponents through field dominance and multi-attacks, exploiting rear-guard power boosts and formations. Key victories include Ace in GIRS Crisis (restoring resolve), Toshiki Kai (after prior losses), Valeos twice (including Gyze’s defeat with allies), and Shouma (avenging past defeats). Losses came against Chrono, Kouji Ibuki, Ren Suzugamori, and Shiranui.

Cardfight quotes echo his passion and sword motif: "My passion and your sword together! Blue Sky Knight, Altmile!" He seals wins with "C’est fini."
