Haruhiko Usumizawa is a teacher at Y-Academy, where he serves as the instructor for Japanese in Class 1-A and oversees students including Jinpei Jiba, Mataro Tamada, and Sandayu Koma, in addition to managing student housing. His physical appearance includes white skin, glasses, and a black toupee, and he is typically dressed in a brown coat worn over a beige sweater and a white collared shirt, complemented by a green tie with lime green stripes, grey khaki pants, and black shoes.
His background is deeply tied to the supernatural, as he is revealed to be the reincarnation of the yo-kai Whisper, having survived the destruction of the Yo-kai World. In his role at the academy, he initially appears to act under coercion from alien forces who granted him the power to transform the deceased into hostile entities known as Onryo. This ability is activated by infusing a strand of his hair with magical breath and throwing it at a victim, a power that ultimately stems from energy transferred to his hair by a character named Nayu Kuruhoshi.
