Description
Following the original Lupin III's disappearance, impostors adopting his persona emerge globally. Yasuo, one such figure, receives the iconic green jacket and Walther P38 from a mysterious elderly bookseller, implied to be the retired Lupin III orchestrating events from the shadows. This figure observes Yasuo's transformation, culminating in a symbolic passing of the mantle.

A rival "red jacket" Lupin, presented as another claimant to the title, engages Yasuo in conflict over the theft of the "Ice Cube," a diamond revealed to be weapons-grade plutonium. Their rivalry escalates into a duel to determine the "real" Lupin. Recognizing the Ice Cube's destructive potential, their dynamic shifts, forging an unspoken alliance. Lupin (red jacket) and Inspector Zenigata permit Yasuo's escape with the plutonium to prevent military use, marking a rare instance where Lupin prioritizes global safety.

An ambiguous confrontation unfolds atop a building, rendered in a black-and-white art style evoking Monkey Punch’s original manga. An unidentified Lupin (either red or green) is thrown off the building and later escapes an ambulance. Post-duel, Yasuo visits his grandmother, while Jigen and Fujiko commend the bookseller, reinforcing his role as the true Lupin. The ending implies Yasuo may have inherited the identity, seen driving away with Jigen while Yukiko’s ring dangles from the rear-view mirror as a symbol of his transition.

The film frames "Lupin III" as a fluid legacy rather than a fixed individual, emphasizing the persona persists through those embodying its ideals of audacity and skill. This theme is underscored by cameos of Lupin variants from across the franchise, including designs from *The Castle of Cagliostro*, *The Mystery of Mamo*, and pink-jacketed iterations.
