Description
Daisuke Jigen serves as the master thief Lupin III's primary marksman and fiercely loyal partner. His background presents variations: one origin depicts him born in the Bronx, New York, joining the New York mob young and receiving firearms training before relocating to Europe and the Italian Mafia. The prequel *Lupin Zero* offers an alternative, placing him in 1960s Japan engaged in underground crime from youth, mastering firearms early, and forming a reluctant partnership with young Lupin III.

His distinct appearance features a broad-brimmed fedora typically shadowing his eyes, a chin curtain beard, and a consistent style of dark suits with light dress shirts and ties. His cherished possessions are his hat and his signature Smith & Wesson Model 19 revolver, originally owned by an Italian mafia boss. Jigen claimed responsibility for the boss's death – actually caused accidentally by the boss's wife, Cicciolina, during a confrontation – to protect her, making him a fugitive from the Italian Mafia.

Jigen possesses extraordinary marksmanship. He achieves a 0.3-second quick-draw and feats like shooting skeet with a handgun, intercepting missiles by targeting warheads, and deflecting bullets mid-air. Proficient with revolvers, machine guns, sniper rifles, and anti-tank rifles, he favors the Model 19 for its reliability and stopping power. His skill remains formidable even without his hat, which occasionally features a notch used for aiming in some non-canonical stories.

Personality-wise, Jigen exhibits a gruff, cynical exterior and quick temper, often reacting violently to insults against himself or Lupin III. Despite this, he shows unwavering loyalty to Lupin III, acting as a pragmatic counterbalance to Lupin's impulsiveness. He deeply distrusts Fujiko Mine due to her betrayals and has a history of tragic romance, including the death of Cicciolina, whom he was manipulated into killing as part of her suicide plan. This contributed to his aversion to relationships and transition from gun-for-hire to thief. His personal code forbids killing women and children, though he uses lethal force against any immediate threat regardless of age or gender. Additional traits include heavy smoking (preferring Pall Mall Filter Longs or Marlboro Red), drinking scotch or bourbon, enjoying spaghetti westerns, classical music, and American cuisine, with a high alcohol tolerance.

Within *Lupin the 3rd: Napoleon's Dictionary*, Jigen participates as Lupin III's accomplice in a vintage car race from Madrid to Paris for the prize of Napoleon's Dictionary, containing clues to the Lupin family treasure. He provides firearms expertise and tactical support, fulfilling his typical role as the grounded professional amidst Lupin III's chaotic schemes, complicated by Fujiko Mine, Goemon Ishikawa XIII, and Inspector Zenigata.

His familial connections include a sister referenced in early manga chapters, once held hostage to force him to target Lupin III, and a brother reportedly killed by a man named Kido. These elements appear primarily in Monkey Punch's original manga and are less consistent later. Jigen's history with Lupin III varies from childhood friends to initially hired assassin across narratives, though all converge on their enduring partnership and mutual respect.
