Description
Akitaru Ōbi is the 31-year-old founding captain of Special Fire Force Company 8. Standing 189 cm tall and weighing 108 kg, he has a muscular build with short, dark hair shaven at the sides. Born on March 27 with blood type B, he once served as a decorated firefighter with the Fire Defence Agency, though two of his awards were revoked for prioritizing civilian lives over orders. That experience led him to establish Company 8 after witnessing the Fire Force’s point system for handling Infernals, which showed little regard for grieving families. He firmly believes fire soldiers must always consider the feelings of those close to spontaneous human combustion victims.

Though he lacks any ignition ability or pyrokinetic powers, Ōbi compensates with relentless physical training, routinely carrying over 30 kg of equipment, ripping train tracks from the ground, and bending steel. He employs weapons like the Core Annihilating Pile Bunker, a firefighting ax, electromagnetic orbs, and flame-extinguishing grenades. A capable strategist, he devises on‑the‑spot plans, using environmental objects and deploying fire extinguishing foam as a smokescreen. Benimaru Shinmon notes that Ōbi embodies hysterical strength, pushing beyond normal limits when endangered.

Courageous and staunchly just, Ōbi does not tolerate evildoers. He views cleansing Infernals as necessary murder and insists on respecting the bereaved, becoming angry even at subordinates who disregard those sentiments. Despite a fear of death, he never hesitates in danger due to his responsibility to his team. His charisma inspires deep loyalty, and even opponents acknowledge his moral character. He is often seen working out during meetings. His favorite food is ramen, and he dislikes protein. He enjoys rock music, favors dogs, and his preferred color is beige. His hobbies include collecting records, playing basketball, and DIY home improvement, though he lacks skill in the latter.

After an event where Shinra Kusakabe reversed time, Ōbi bears a mysterious creature stitched to his neck and wears a haori with the word “DEATH” on the back. During the Great Cataclysm, he was killed by a doppelgänger, but world recreation restored him. Post‑cataclysm, he dissolved the Fire Force to establish the World Heroes Force, rising from battalion commander to president over the following 25 years.
