Description
Hinata is a Third Generation pyrokinetic from the district of Asakusa who serves as a member of the Special Fire Force Company 7. She is the twin sister of Hikage, with the two girls being virtually inseparable and nearly identical in appearance. Hinata has black hair which she typically wears tied up in a bun or bubble at the back of her head, with her bangs brushed to the right side of her face as a deliberate contrast to her sister who sweeps her hair to the left. She is often depicted wearing a black kimono with a blue striped sash at the waist which signifies her loyalty to the 7th Company, and the sleeves of her garment feature a pattern of flames. She also wears a large light-colored bow on her head.
Personality-wise, Hinata comes across as a jolly and cheerful girl, though she is certainly not as innocent or soft as her cute appearance might suggest. She is notably mischievous and has a tendency to use surprisingly mean-spirited and foul language for someone her age, a behavioral trait she appears to have picked up from her commanding officer, Benimaru Shinmon, despite his insistence that his own attitude is not nearly as rough as the twins'. Hinata, like many other residents of Asakusa, demonstrates a noticeable enthusiasm for fighting, especially when she believes the opponent to be a bad person, and she takes visible pleasure in such confrontations. Beyond her combative streak, she also harbors an overwhelming love for desserts and anything sweet. Her bond with her sister Hikage is exceptionally strong, allowing the pair to function as a nearly flawless unit; they are so attuned to one another that impostors cannot easily deceive them, and they rarely ever fight or argue with each other. Despite their harsh words and sometimes unruly actions, which include insisting that Shinra was chasing them when they were the ones who wanted to play tag, the twins share a close and affectionate relationship with both Benimaru and Konro Sagamiya, who serve as their parental figures and protectors.
Within the story, Hinata functions as a supporting member of Company 7, often seen in the background at their headquarters in Asakusa. During the Asakusa arc, she and her sister engage in playing tag with Shinra Kusakabe, showcasing their playful yet slightly antagonistic dynamic with outsiders. Her role becomes more prominent when an impostor attempts to replace her sister Hikage. Hinata is visibly distressed and fighting with the fake, insisting something is wrong until Arthur Boyle correctly identifies and incapacitates the impostor with a kick. After the real Hikage breaks free from her captors, the two sisters reunite and proceed to happily unleash their pyrokinetic powers on the men who kidnapped Hikage, demonstrating their formidable teamwork and their eagerness to punish those they deem evil. By the conclusion of the incident, Hinata and her sister are seen bidding farewell to Company 8 with Benimaru and Konro, shouting that the visitors should not return unless they bring good sweets.
As a Third Generation pyrokinetic, Hinata possesses the ability to generate and manipulate flames at will. Her ignition ability is identical to that of her twin sister. When she activates her power, she can engulf her entire body in flames, with the fire typically concealing everything except her lower legs and feet. In this ignited state, her form transforms, taking on the distinct visual characteristics of a mythical kitsune, or fox spirit, complete with fox-like ears, facial markings, and a flame-shaped head. While the exact upper limits of her individual strength are not clearly defined, this fiery transformation grants her significantly enhanced physical abilities, including greater speed and strength. When fighting together, she and Hikage can easily overpower adult opponents, and their combined combat prowess is said to be on par with a company captain.
