Description
Miku Kohinata, a Japanese student at Lydian Private Music Academy, bears a given name meaning "future" and a surname signifying "small sunny spot." She stands 156 cm tall with black hair, teal green eyes, a November 7th birthday placing her under Scorpio, and blood type A.
Her foundational bond is a childhood friendship with Hibiki Tachibana. This connection predates the disastrous Zwei Wing concert attacked by Noise creatures; Miku encouraged Hibiki to attend but could not join. Survivor's guilt from this event fostered a hidden possessive streak toward Hibiki. Miku later transferred to Lydian to be near her, quitting her junior high track team where she had been a competitive sprinter focused solely on winning. At Lydian, she learned piano to express emotions difficult for her to voice.
Initially depicted as a pacifistic civilian, Miku prioritized domestic stability, often cooking and maintaining shared living spaces for Hibiki. She intensely valued honesty and reacted negatively to secrets. Her protective nature emerged when she took in the injured Chris Yukine. During Season G, Dr. Ver kidnapped and brainwashed Miku into wielding the relic Shénshòujìng, forcing her to fight Hibiki. Miku consciously accepted this to destroy the Gungnir relic shard killing Hibiki, aware Ver would exploit Shenshoujing's feedback system for control. This temporary Symphogear use involved reflective mirrors firing lasers.
In Season GX, Miku supported Hibiki through her coma following Autoscorer attacks, reflecting her deepening emotional resilience. AXZ revealed her past struggles with empathy and character growth catalyzed by Hibiki's influence. Exposure to the Shénshòujìng's negating laser during AXZ purged Miku and Hibiki from the "original sin," the Curse of Balal.
Season XV marked Miku's most significant arc. She discovered and wore an ancient bracelet, enabling possession by the Custodian Shem-Ha Mephorash. Under Shem-Ha's control, her eyes turned lavender with glowing red rings, granting permanent access to the Faust Robe version of Shénshòujìng. Shem-Ha used Miku's body to activate the Yggdrasil System, intending to terraform Earth and destroy the moon. After Hibiki's group purged Shem-Ha, Miku immediately joined the final battle to dismantle Yggdrasil.
Miku consistently balanced pacifism with courageous action to protect others. Her relationship with Hibiki evolved into mutual reliance, with Miku serving as Hibiki's emotional anchor—"the warmest place she can go to." Their bond embodied the series' theme of love emerging from imperfection. In XV's conclusion, Miku stood alongside Hibiki to reject divine control over humanity, cementing their partnership as central to the narrative's resolution.
