Description
Chris Yukine is a Japanese-American character who begins as an antagonist before evolving into a core protagonist. Her past holds deep trauma: witnessing her parents' deaths during a terrorist attack in Val Verde at age eight, where they pursued peace through music. This event led to her enslavement until rescue by United Nations forces two years prior to the main story.
Recruited by the antagonist Finé, Chris wielded the Nehushtan Armor, utilizing its regenerative powers and chain-whip weapons. Finé subjected her to manipulation and abuse, deepening her distrust of adults and fueling a brash, aggressive personality. While initially believing destroying those with power would bring peace, she harbored guilt over harming innocents. Chris refused to sing due to the Nehushtan Armor's link to Solomon's Cane, a tool for mass destruction.
After confrontations with protagonists Hibiki Tachibana and Tsubasa Kazanari, Finé abandoned Chris. Exhausted and cornered, Hibiki's group rescued her, leading to her defection to the multinational peacekeeping organization S.O.N.G. She exchanged Nehushtan for the Ichaival Symphogear, manifesting crossbows, gatling guns ("Billion Maiden"), missiles ("Megadeth Party"), and bows ("Arthemis Spiral"). Despite joining S.O.N.G., past isolation hindered her social interactions, often causing tsundere-like defensiveness to physical affection.
Through subsequent conflicts, Chris transitioned from a lone warrior to a team-oriented protector. In *Symphogear G*, she confronted her hatred battling the Fine group and the Nephilim, culminating in using Solomon's Cane to help seal a dimensional rift. *Symphogear GX* featured her mentoring younger Symphogear users Shirabe Tsukuyomi and Kirika Akatsuki, overcoming her fear of forming bonds. She gained the "Ignite Module" upgrade to combat alchemists and Autoscorers.
By *Symphogear XV*, Chris fully embraced her guardian role, participating in defeating the deity Adam Weishaupt. She utilized advanced transformations like X-Drive and Burning X-Drive for multi-solar system-level feats. Her personal growth included honoring her parents' legacy through a Buddhist shrine in her apartment, where she communicated with their photo.
Physically, Chris stands 153 cm tall with lavender hair (turning silver in *Symphogear G*) and purple eyes. Her casual attire evolved across seasons, shifting from maroon dresses to sleeveless shirts and shorts, reflecting her gradual integration into normal life. Her combat style emphasizes ranged artillery, with attack names referencing rock/metal bands, such as "Giga Zeppelin".
Her relationships deepened significantly: she maintained a competitive yet respectful dynamic with Tsubasa, a playful rivalry with Hibiki (often calling her "baka"), and eventually formed close friendships with all S.O.N.G. members, symbolizing her hard-won trust in others.
