TV-Series
Description
Maria Cadenzavna Eve is a singer who achieved rapid international fame, reaching the top of the American music charts within about two months of her debut. Her energetic yet mysterious singing voice attracted a large fan base across borders. She is a Symphogear user who initially wielded a black Gungnir relic before later using the Airgetlám relic, which was originally the relic of her younger sister, Serena. Maria requires the experimental drug LiNKER to maintain synchronization with her Symphogear, as her natural compatibility is not as high as some other users.
Maria was born in Ukraine alongside her sister Serena, and she lost Serena in an accident that occurred under the care of the organization F.I.S. This loss deeply affected her and shaped much of her subsequent actions. In the second season, Symphogear G, Maria appeared as an antagonist, publicly claiming to be the reincarnation of Finé and leading a terrorist group. This was a facade she maintained to deceive the world and protect it from a greater threat, acting as a false enemy of humanity. Her actions during this period were motivated by a desire to fulfill a mission she believed necessary, even at the cost of her own reputation. She covered her true feelings with lies.
From the third season, Symphogear GX, onward, Maria becomes a protagonist and ally to the main group. In Symphogear AXZ, she continues as a core member of the team. Her personality is a complex blend of determination, sincerity, and protective instincts, but she also carries a hidden sense of conflict and insecurity rooted in her past failings and sorrows. She often appears motherly and energetic on the surface, but this persona is a shell that conceals a troubled soul. At her core, she is heroic and deeply cares for others, but she struggles with self-doubt and the guilt of her past actions.
Her key relationships include her deceased sister Serena Cadenzavna Eve, whose death continues to haunt her. She also has a bond with Nastassja Tolstaya, her adoptive mother. Within the team of Symphogear users, Maria develops strong bonds with the other wielders, particularly Tsubasa Kazanari, with whom she initially shared a rivalry. She also shares a close dynamic with Kirika Akatsuki and Shirabe Tsukuyomi. Her role in the story evolves from a tragic figure who made desperate choices to a reliable teammate who fights to protect others and atone for her past. Her development involves learning to accept her past, open up about her true feelings, and move forward with the support of her comrades.
In battle, Maria demonstrates exceptional combat talent, effective against both individuals and groups. Her Airgetlám Symphogear is a support-oriented relic that features transformable weapons, typically beginning as a dagger that can shift into a sword or a cannon, and also allows for control over the surrounding environment. Because of her reliance on LiNKER, her ability to fight without it is limited, but she remains a formidable combatant when properly equipped. Her singing voice is not only a tool for combat but also a means to inspire courage in others.
