Description
Carol Malus Dienheim originated in medieval Europe as the daughter of alchemist Izak Malus Dienheim. She witnessed villagers execute her father after mistaking his plague-curing alchemy for witchcraft. His final words urged her to "learn the world's mysteries," an instruction she later twisted into a quest for vengeance against humanity. This trauma sparked centuries of existence sustained through homunculus bodies, during which persecution pursued her relentlessly through events like the Inquisition and the Holocaust.
Her personality shifted from a kind, curious child to a nihilistic, manipulative figure obsessed with using alchemy to "dissect" the world. She cultivated a cold, patient demeanor and adopted the arrogant Japanese pronoun "ore." Over centuries, she mastered alchemy powered by memory combustion – sacrificing personal memories to fuel spells manipulating matter and energy. Her capabilities encompassed generating destructive elemental forces (silver, wind, fire, earth, water), creating disintegration-capable Alca-Noise, and forging homunculi like her clone Elfnein and the Autoscorers.
She wielded the relic Daur da Bláo, a harp that transformed into armor (Faust Robe) upon activation, maturing her body into an adult form. This relic amplified her alchemy without requiring songs, though its overuse caused physical rejection symptoms. During Symphogear GX, she deployed the Château de Tiffauges as part of her world-dissection plan. Ultimately defeated, she exhausted her memories and became amnesiac. In her final act, she transferred her remaining consciousness to the dying Elfnein, healing her but rendering herself dormant.
Later events revealed Carol's consciousness partially survived within Elfnein. During AXZ, Elfnein used Dr. Ver's technology to scan for memory fragments. By XV, Carol had reconstructed a stable pseudo-personality by copying these fragments, allowing her to resurface and share Elfnein's body. This revival constituted an artificial intelligence replicating her irrational traits rather than a true resurrection. That season, she allied with S.O.N.G. against the Custodians, sacrificing a reconstructed body to halt Adam Weishaupt's plans.
An alternate version appeared in the XDU spin-off. Similar to her original counterpart, this Carol sought world dissection but was betrayed by her homunculus Noel. After allying with Kanade and S.O.N.G., she forged a New Faust Robe using Autoscorer memories to defeat Noel, subsequently dedicating herself to protecting the world.
Her appearance remained consistently childlike with blonde hair and teal eyes, typically wearing a red dress and black gloves. The Faust Robe transformation altered her physique to an adult form while donning golden-brown armor.
