Description
Kakushi Gotō is a manga artist renowned for his popular ecchi series "Balls of Fury," characterized by explicit humor and suggestive content. He actively conceals this profession from his young daughter, Hime Gotō, driven by fear that she would feel ashamed or alienated by his work, a dual role central to his existence.

Originating from a prominent Kabuki household yet being an illegitimate child adds complexity to his background. He marries and has Hime, but his wife vanishes in an accident off Japan's coast before the main story, leaving him a single parent. Her absence profoundly impacts him, fueling a lifelong devotion to her memory; he continues searching for her years later and rejects emotional closure.

Physically, Kakushi is slim with short black hair, often styled with bangs covering his left eye. He possesses grey eyes, a short goatee, and wears glasses. To preserve his secret, he adopts a deliberate disguise: dressing in a formal black suit and carrying a briefcase when leaving home, projecting the image of a conventional office worker. At his manga studio, "G-PRO," he works in casual attire alongside assistants Aogu Shiji, Ami Kakei, Kakeru Keshi, and Rasuna Sumita – each named with occupational puns related to manga creation – who actively aid his deception.

His efforts to hide his profession escalate into elaborate schemes: storing manuscripts in a remote warehouse, altering his office’s appearance, and intercepting work-related deliveries. These often trigger comedic misunderstandings, especially when his editor, Satsuki Tomaruin, inadvertently threatens the secret. These farcical endeavors stem from a sincere drive to protect Hime’s innocence and preserve their relationship.

The narrative unfolds across two timelines. The primary one follows Kakushi during Hime’s childhood, depicting his daily struggle to balance parenting and work. The secondary timeline, set years later, shows Hime as a high school student. Kakushi now works a warehouse job following his manga career's decline. He suffers an accident at this job, resulting in a coma lasting at least a year. During this period, Hime discovers his secret after receiving a key to his manuscript warehouse, fulfilling his original plan to reveal the truth upon her 18th birthday.

His character is further nuanced through a strained relationship with his wealthy father-in-law, Kairi Imashigata, who disapproves of him yet supports Hime materially. Kakushi’s persistent secrecy, initially seeming overprotective, gradually reveals deeper insecurities and societal pressures concerning parental respectability. The future timeline underscores the consequences of his secrecy, shaping Hime’s understanding of his sacrifices and love.

The theatrical edition condenses these elements, maintaining the contrast between comedic childhood escapades and the melancholic future where Hime confronts his secret amid his coma. New scenes offer additional context about his relationship with his late wife, emphasizing his enduring grief and the emotional weight behind his actions as a father.
