TV-Series
Description
Momo Akanegakubo is a 90th generation student of Totsuki Culinary Academy and a graduate who served as the fourth seat of the Elite Ten Council before being promoted to the third seat during the administration of Azami Nakiri. She comes from a wealthy family and was raised as a spoiled child with little opposition to her choices, which influences her elitist and perfectionist outlook.
Momo has a small, cute, animal-like appearance with short purple hair and green eyes, but her personality contrasts sharply with her looks. She is shy and reserved around strangers, yet she has a sharp, blunt tongue and tends to give dismissive nicknames to those she considers beneath her rank. She is highly arrogant, even compared to other members of the Elite Ten, and possesses a superior sensibility for cuteness: any product she endorses as cute is guaranteed to become a hit. Her motivations are rooted in maintaining the standards of Central and enforcing a rigid culinary hierarchy, believing that only cooking that meets her strict standards of cuteness and perfection is worthy.
Momo plays the role of a major antagonist during the Central storyline of the series. She initially supports the ousting of Senzaemon Nakiri and the installment of Azami as director, using her position in the Elite Ten to further his authoritarian culinary regime. She directly confronts the protagonists in a shokugeki, or food war, during the Moon Festival and the Totsuki Train arc. After graduating, she opens a small pastry shop called Momo, signaling her dedication to confectionery and dessert specialization.
Her key relationships include her fellow Elite Ten members, such as Etsuya Eizan, with whom she shares a condescending attitude toward lower-ranked students, and members of Central. She faces off against Megumi Tadokoro in a shokugeki, and while she ultimately wins, she acknowledges Megumi's skill by giving her a nickname, which shows a subtle form of recognition for a worthy opponent. Momo is also allied with the other Elite Ten members who support Azami, including Rindou Kobayashi and Eishi Tsukasa.
Development wise, Momo begins as a rigid, elitist figure who views cooking strictly through the lens of cuteness and hierarchy. Her defeat and the shifting power dynamics within the academy challenge her worldview, though she never fully abandons her core beliefs. Her eventual opening of her own shop indicates a move toward independence and a focus on her personal culinary vision.
Her notable abilities lie in confectionery arts and dessert-making. She is the sole dessert specialist in the Elite Ten, known for unorthodox precision and a highly refined sense of aesthetics. Her dishes emphasize cuteness, presentation, and delicate flavors, and she has a knack for creating sweets that are both visually charming and technically flawless. She also has a keen sense of smell and an almost instinctive ability to judge what will be commercially popular, which makes her a formidable figure in both culinary battles and the marketplace.
