Description
Wolfgang, also known as Wolfman Wolfgang, is a werewolf serving in Backbeard's Western Yōkai army. His human form displays a muscular build, tan skin, long brown hair, pointy ears, a thin mustache, and goatee, dressed in a maroon suit, brown collared shirt, red necktie, and brown shoes. His werewolf form sports maroon fur, a distinctive brown cross-shaped patch on his chest, wolf-like facial features, elongated limbs with white claws, a long tail tipped bright red, and blood-red eyes with slit pupils, wearing only tattered pants.
Personality-wise, Wolfgang maintains a serious, businesslike demeanor with minimal emotional expression. He acts overtly polite and deferential towards superiors like Adél and Agnès, using honorific suffixes. During combat, however, he becomes callously cruel, taunting weaker opponents and engaging in indiscriminate killing. Loyalty to Adél and Backbeard suppresses his feral instincts, though he harbors a vengeful streak upon defeat.
Prior to the 2018 series, he participated in the slaughter of rebellious yōkai in the Malay Peninsula after the Brigadoon Project's activation by Agnès' mother. He claims familiarity with Agnès' family, recalling their closeness before her mother's death. In Episode 27, tasked with retrieving Agnès and the Ring of Arcana, he traps the Kitarō Family using a barrier stone from Adél, executes Miminaga for perceived weakness, and challenges Kitarō. Wounded by silver after Agnès reveals his weakness, he retreats, feeling betrayed.
Healed and empowered by a full moon in Episode 28, he gains near-immortality and resistance to silver bullets. Despite this, an enraged Kitarō, aided by Agnès' magic, inflicts sufficient injuries to halt his assault. He flees when Agnès activates the Ring of Arcana against the Western Yōkai. Later, in Episodes 35–37, he participates in Backbeard's plan to seize the Ring from Mana. Immobilized by Konaki-Jijii's stone weight, he breaks free and battles the yōkai elder. Following Backbeard's temporary defeat, he escapes to an unknown location. In the *Final Chapter: Nurarihyon Arc*, he witnesses Victor Frankenstein's failed resurrection of Backbeard, protests the revival process, and joins Carmilla in bowing to their restored master.
In earlier adaptations, Wolfgang (credited as Wolfman) appeared in Backbeard's original Western Yōkai army. He represented England in *The Great Yōkai War* and later admired Kitarō for rescuing him and the Witch during an accident. In the fifth anime series, identified as Wild's father, he fought in the Great Yōkai War 12 years prior. Reuniting with Dracula II, Frankenstein, and the Witch in Episode #68, he blocks the Kitarō Family's advance into Jigoku.
His abilities include retractable claws in both forms and voluntary werewolf transformation, bypassing the traditional full moon requirement. This form grants enhanced strength and durability, enabling him to shatter Nurikabe and overpower multiple opponents. He possesses rapid regenerative healing for non-silver injuries. Under a full moon, he achieves near-invincibility and silver resistance, though sufficient force can still injure him. He utilizes magic stones from Adél: a dispelling stone breaks illusions, a barrier stone creates containment, and a teleportation stone allows instant retreat.
