Kevin lived as a settler within the community of Shadow Basin. He befriended other local teens his age, gathering regularly with them near the settlement's waterfalls. During an encounter sparked by conflict between the Travis siblings, Taylor Travis confronted Kevin and his group while searching for his sister Hayley. Kevin relayed Hayley's location, reporting he witnessed her heading toward the rim of Shadow Basin while visibly distressed.

This information inadvertently guided the Travis siblings to the decommissioned training Jaeger, Atlas Destroyer. Its discovery alerted the Category IV Kaiju Copperhead, which descended upon Shadow Basin. Copperhead ravaged the settlement, killing most inhabitants. Kevin survived the initial onslaught and fled. Cornered by the Kaiju at a cliff edge during his escape, paralyzed by terror, Kevin locked eyes with Taylor and Hayley Travis watching from the cliff top above moments before Copperhead crushed him.

Kevin later appeared in a brief flashback when Shane questioned Taylor about past events, revisiting these occurrences within the story.
