Description
Shinnosuke Nohara, nicknamed Shin-chan, is a five-year-old Japanese boy attending kindergarten in Kasukabe. He lives with his parents Hiroshi and Misae, younger sister Himawari, and their dog Shiro, whom he rescued from the street. Physically, he inherits his mother's facial features and his father's black hair, eyebrows, and eye color.

His personality blends childlike curiosity with unexpected maturity, often using adult language he misunderstands while displaying philosophical insights alongside mischievous antics. He exhibits brutal honesty, extreme curiosity, and minimal shame, frequently performing socially inappropriate acts like the "buri buri" dance while singing original songs such as "Buttock Alien." Despite this, he demonstrates surprising competence in diverse activities including running, surfing, kendo, fishing, skiing, swimming, baseball, football, and photography.

Shinnosuke habitually creates malapropisms—confusing "promise" with "promotion"—and uses nonstandard pronouns like "ora." His humor leans toward sexual innuendo, including inappropriate flirtation with older women through lines like "Hey, baby, you like onions?"—a trait shared with his father and paternal grandfather. He adores chocolate corn biscuits ("Chocobi") and the superhero "Action Mask," but intensely dislikes green peppers.

He shares a close yet teasing bond with his mother, inheriting her stubbornness, and mirrors his father's flirtatious tendencies, often reporting Hiroshi's misdeeds to Misae. He is protective of his sister Himawari and deeply cares for Shiro despite neglecting responsibilities like walking the dog. Among peers, he considers the intelligent Toru Kazama his best friend despite frequent bickering, and regularly interacts with Nene Sakurada, Masao Sato, and Bo Suzuki as part of their "Kasukabe Defence Force" (KB) adventures.

An unverified background story suggests Shinnosuke may be inspired by a real child who died saving his sister in a car accident, with sketches by the grieving mother later adapted by manga creator Yoshito Usui.

In "Eiga Crayon Shin-chan Nazo Meki! Hana no Tenkasu Gakuen," Shinnosuke and the KB visit Tenkatōitsu Kasukabe Private Academy, an elite boarding school managed by AI headmaster Otsumun. Students earn or lose points based on behavior and academics. When Kazama is attacked by a "vampire" causing intellectual regression, Shinnosuke investigates alongside classmates including former athlete Chisio Atsuki. The mystery reveals top student Sasuga manipulated intelligence to help Chisio advance. After Otsumun brainwashes Kazama into an elite state, Shinnosuke rejects artificial superiority, leading a marathon challenge to retrieve yakisoba bread. His victory, aided by Chisio, delinquents, and allies, restores Kazama's normalcy.

Throughout official media, Shinnosuke occasionally displays selfless kindness—such as saving a frog in the rain despite risking punishment for dirty clothes, or giving money to a friend anticipating maternal reprimand. These moments contrast his usual antics but reveal underlying loyalty and care, particularly evident during high-stakes situations like the Tenkasu Academy incident.
