Description
Shinya Kiritani, known as Shin, is a veteran of the online game "The New Gate," renowned for his top-class combat abilities. His actions within a deadly in-game event culminated in defeating the final boss, Origin-1, liberating thousands of trapped players. Rather than returning to reality, Shin found himself transported roughly 500 years into the future of the now-real game world.
In appearance, Shin presents as a 21-year-old male with short black hair and dark eyes, possessing a tall, slender frame. He typically wears a long coat and matching pants, accented by protective arm and leg guards. His signature equipment is the "Dark King" set—a muffler, long coat, arm guards, leg guards, and ring—bestowed upon him by his game girlfriend, Marino. His primary weapon is the custom katana "True Moon," imbued with magic nullification, complemented by the "Age of Gods" earring granting resistance to abnormalities.
Fundamentally kind and respectable, Shin's personality was temporarily reshaped by the death game trauma into cold ruthlessness. Post-liberation, he reverted to his original compassionate nature.
Shin's background identifies him as a "High Human" at level 255, a status he conceals by posing as a "chosen one." He specializes in close combat with supplementary magic proficiency, holding the unique class of "Dark Blacksmith." This class enables him to analyze and recreate weapon recipes through dedicated trial and error, a skill explored across multiple manga volumes. His extensive combat capabilities include skills like "Crescent Strike," "Mind’s Eye," "Triple Strength" for temporary stat tripling, and peak-rank abilities such as "Heaven Decapitation," progressively cataloged through manga volumes 1 to 9+.
Victory over Origin-1 granted Shin three significant titles: "Limit Breaker" (allowing stats to surpass the game's 999 maximum), "Liberator" (enabling removal of unbreakable slave collars), and "Hades Surge" (enhancing his and allies' abilities). These powers stem from absorbing most of Origin-1's energy, now fused with his soul. This energy dictates his existence; excessive use shortens the estimated 50-60 years before he returns to his original body.
His core companions include Schnee Raizar, a High Elf master of ninja arts serving as his primary support and romantic interest, whose mutual affection led to his choice to remain in her world. Allies also comprise Yuzuha, an Element Tail fox bound by a tamer contract; Filma Tormeia (High Lord); Shibaid Etraku (High Dragnil); the deceased Girard Estaria (High Beast); and Seti Lumiere (High Pixie). Characters like Tiera Lucent, an elf he rescued from a curse, further form his network.
Shin's ongoing journey involves navigating this unfamiliar future world, where historical knowledge of players is scarce and high-level skills/items are rare. He seeks understanding of the transformed reality while managing the consequences of his absorbed powers and their impact on his eventual return.
