Description
Nicolo is a former Marleyan soldier who initially served as a member of the Marleyan Navy. He was part of the first survey fleet sent to Paradis Island following the failed Paradis Island Operation. After being taken captive by the Paradis military, Nicolo begins working on the island as a chef for the Eldian military. He is a young man of short stature and slim build, with a petite pointed nose, brown eyes, and blond hair that falls to the sides in a style resembling an undercut. His appearance reflects his Marleyan origins, and he is often seen wearing the standard Marleyan military uniform.

Nicolos personality is marked by a strong desire to be loved and accepted. This need for connection is a driving force in his actions and decisions. He is deeply affected by genuine kindness and admiration, which leads him to form a profound emotional bond with Sasha Blouse. Her sincere praise of his cooking and her warm, unguarded demeanor toward him cause Nicolo to fall deeply in love with her, despite her being from a nation that his own people consider an enemy. This relationship becomes central to his character, as it challenges his preconceived notions about the people of Paradis and forces him to confront the humanity of those he was once taught to despise.

Nicolos role in the story primarily revolves around his connection to Sasha and the Blouse family, as well as his position as a chef serving the Paradis military. His culinary skills earn him a place of relative trust and respect within the militarys ranks, and he becomes a familiar presence in the mess hall. Following Sashas death, Nicolos grief and anger are palpable, and he struggles with feelings of hatred toward Gabi Braun, the young warrior who killed Sasha. This conflict represents a significant turning point for him, as he must choose between his desire for vengeance and the compassion that Sasha had shown him. Ultimately, his love for Sasha and his respect for her values guide him toward forgiveness and mercy.

His key relationships include his deep attachment to Sasha Blouse, whose kindness transforms his worldview. He also develops a connection with the Blouse family, particularly Sashas father and younger sister Kaya. After the Rumbling and the neutralization of the Titans within Shiganshina, Nicolo informs Armin that he will be staying with the Blouse family temporarily while preparing horses for him and Gabi so that they can travel to Ragako to rescue Falco Grice. This action demonstrates his willingness to cooperate with former enemies in the service of a greater good.

Nicolos development is marked by a shift from a Marleyan soldier who viewed Eldians as devils to a man who forms genuine bonds with the people of Paradis. He learns to set aside his ingrained prejudices and act out of love and loyalty rather than hatred. His character arc shows how genuine human connection can overcome deep-seated ideological divisions.

In terms of notable abilities, Nicolo is distinguished by his culinary expertise, which is the primary skill that defines his role on Paradis. He is not a combatant in the traditional sense, but his cooking earns him a valued place within the community. He also demonstrates resourcefulness and practicality, as seen in his efforts to assist Armin and Gabi in their mission to rescue Falco. His emotional resilience and capacity for growth are perhaps his most significant personal strengths, allowing him to navigate the complex moral landscape of the conflict between Marley and Paradis.
