Description
Eren Yeager was born on March 30, 835, in Shiganshina District within Wall Maria to Grisha and Carla Yeager. His childhood seemed ordinary until age nine, when he witnessed the brutal aftermath of Mikasa Ackerman's family murder. Defying his father, he tracked her kidnappers and killed two traffickers to rescue her, revealing intense protective instincts and a capacity for violence. Mikasa then joined the Yeager household as his adoptive sister. Fueled by Armin Arlert's book depicting the outside world, Eren developed a deep resentment toward the confining Walls. He idolized the Survey Corps as symbols of freedom and scorned those who accepted life within the Walls as "livestock".
In 845, the Colossal and Armored Titans breached Wall Maria, causing widespread destruction. Trapped under rubble during the attack, Eren witnessed his mother being devoured by a Smiling Titan. This trauma ignited an obsessive hatred toward Titans and a vow to exterminate them. Shortly after, his father Grisha injected him with an unknown serum, entrusted him with a basement key, instructed him to reclaim Wall Maria and discover the truth hidden there, then disappeared.
Eren enlisted in the 104th Training Corps in 847 alongside Mikasa and Armin. Despite initial physical struggles, relentless determination earned him 5th ranking upon graduation in 850, and he joined the Survey Corps. During the Battle of Trost District, he sacrificed himself to save Armin from a Pure Titan, only to emerge later from its nape, revealing his ability to transform into a 15-meter Titan. This form exhibited defined musculature, elongated ears, exposed teeth, and a jagged mouth unsuitable for speech, later identified as the Attack Titan. Military leadership initially condemned him as a threat, but he proved his loyalty by sealing Wall Rose's breach using a boulder.
Subsequent events reshaped his worldview. He learned the Armored and Colossal Titans were his comrades Reiner Braun and Bertholdt Hoover, the destroyers of his hometown. During their attempt to kidnap him, Hannes died protecting him and Mikasa from the Smiling Titan. Overwhelmed by rage and grief, Eren unconsciously activated the Founding Titan's power, commanding nearby Titans to devour the Smiling Titan. Later, kidnapped by the Yeagerists, Historia Reiss and Eren accessed his father's memories through physical contact. These revealed Grisha's origins from Marley, the history of Eldian persecution, and the truth that Titans were transformed humans. Eren realized humanity existed beyond the Walls, viewing Paradis Island residents as "island devils".
These revelations shattered his black-and-white morality. Possessing the Attack Titan (inherited from Grisha) and the Founding Titan (obtained after Grisha murdered the Reiss family), Eren grew disillusioned with the world's hatred of Eldians. By 854, infiltrating Marley undercover, he witnessed global oppression of Eldians and concluded true freedom for Paradis required extreme measures. During the Raid on Liberio, he initiated an attack, declared war on the world, consumed the War Hammer Titan by devouring its inheritor Lara Tybur, and acquired its power. His appearance changed: taller with shoulder-length hair tied in a bun, a beard, and bandages covering injuries.
Eren manipulated events to trigger the Rumbling, unleashing Wall Titans to destroy the world beyond Paradis. His Founding Titan form manifested as a colossal, skeletal entity with an enormous ribcage and undersized limbs, moving by undulating its ribs. Internally decapitated during activation, his head reconnected via a centipede-like organism. Within the Paths dimension, he revealed to Armin that his actions stemmed from experiencing past, present, and future simultaneously due to the Founder's power. He admitted his desire for the unattainable freedom represented by Armin's book and his determination to ensure his friends' long lives, even as the villain. He expressed conflicted feelings toward Mikasa, admitting love while pushing her away to free her from his doomed path, creating an alternate reality within the Paths showcasing a peaceful life they could never have.
His personality evolved from passionate idealism to detached resolve. Initially characterized by impulsiveness, rage, and a strong sense of justice, childhood trauma fostered a worldview where enemies deserved annihilation. Military experiences and betrayals eroded his idealism. Learning the world's truth replaced his Titan hatred with grim determination to protect Paradis by any means, viewing global genocide as the only path to secure his friends' future. This culminated in fatalistic acceptance of his role as the instrument of destruction, believing his actions were predetermined by the Founder's power and necessary to break the cycle of hatred.
Eren died at age 19 in 854 when Mikasa killed him to stop the Rumbling, severing his connection to the Founding Titan and ending the Titan curse. His death freed Ymir Fritz and transformed Titans worldwide back into humans.
