Description
Katsuki Bakugou grew up alongside Izuku Midoriya, earning the childhood nickname "Kacchan." As a child, his charisma, confidence, and athleticism drew admiration from peers. Developing his Quirk "Explosion"—the ability to secrete and detonate nitroglycerin-like sweat from his palms—cemented his superiority complex and aggressive tendencies under constant praise. He bullied Quirkless Izuku, dubbing him "Deku." When Izuku offered help after Bakugou fell into a stream, Bakugou perceived condescension, worsening their relationship.

In junior high, Bakugou dismissed classmates as inferior, determined to be the only student from his school admitted to U.A. High. Learning Izuku also applied intensified his bullying; he destroyed Izuku's hero analysis notebook and threatened him. This pattern persisted until the Sludge Villain incident, where All Might and Izuku rescued a captured Bakugou. Though furious at Izuku's intervention, Bakugou later confronted him at U.A.'s entrance exam, baffled by his rival's sudden Quirk manifestation.

At U.A., Bakugou's arrogance initially isolated him. He scored highest in combat during the Quirk Apprehension Test but reacted violently to Izuku using his Quirk, resulting in discipline. During the Battle Trial Arc, he attacked Izuku relentlessly, convinced Izuku had hidden his abilities for years. Despite his combat skill, his refusal to cooperate with teammates and disregard for rescue objectives revealed his flawed view of heroism. He won the U.A. Sports Festival but felt cheated when Shoto Todoroki withheld full power during their match.

Key failures spurred gradual change. The League of Villains kidnapped Bakugou for his volatile nature, but he rejected their recruitment, declaring his admiration for All Might's victories. All Might's subsequent retirement during the rescue mission instilled searing guilt. He later failed the Provisional Hero License Exam due to abrasive conduct toward civilians, recognizing his attitude hindered his goals. In a private battle with Izuku, he deduced the secret of One For All and learned of All Might's decline, vowing to protect this knowledge and training with Izuku to atone.

Critical development occurred during the Paranormal Liberation War. Bakugou intercepted a fatal attack on Izuku, awakening the explosive technique "Cluster" to save him. His near-death experience and severe injuries, including scars across his shoulder and abdomen, highlighted shifting priorities. Later, in the Dark Deku Arc, he publicly apologized to Izuku for years of bullying, admitting jealousy over his selflessness and acknowledging his own inferiority complex.

In the Final War against All For One and Tomura Shigaraki, Bakugou sustained near-fatal injuries: a crushed arm and ruptured heart. Edgeshot's sacrifice resurrected him, leaving additional scars on his right cheek and arm. Utilizing support gear like "Strafe Panzer" cannons and All Might's armored suit splint, he fought relentlessly, enabling Izuku's victory. Post-graduation, he became the No. 5 Pro Hero "Dynamight," funding support tech for Izuku and redesigning his costume with streamlined grenade bracers and fuse-like braids. Years of rehabilitation reclaimed his right arm's functionality.

Bakugou's personality evolved from outright hostility to tactical leadership. He demonstrated respect for opponents like Uraraka during the Sports Festival and devised cooperative strategies, such as using Quirks to entertain children in remedial training. Though still blunt and competitive, he formed bonds with classmates like Eijiro Kirishima and participated in group activities, including drumming. His core traits—relentless drive, strategic intellect, and aversion to dishonesty—endured, but he integrated empathy and self-awareness, redefining heroism as both victory and protection.
