Description
Clackey Ray, also known as the Noble Youth of Light, is a primary character who first appears as a fifteen-year-old protector of Mimi Village. His journey begins when he mistakenly confronts the protagonist's group, believing them to be the card thieves Deathmatch Dan. After this misunderstanding is resolved through a duel, he joins the quest to oppose the Otherworld King, becoming the bearer of the Yellow Core's light. His appearance evolves from a yellow shirt and black and white jacket with yellow battle armor to a blue and white captain's uniform with a cape and hat in the Brave series.
Clackey possesses a charming and flirtatious personality, frequently directing his attention towards girls of any species, including human and spirit cards. This romantic nature is balanced by deep loyalty to his friends and a strong protective instinct towards those in need, particularly women. Despite his generally laid-back demeanor, he can enter long-lasting periods of depression when rejected by a girl. His core motivations center on protecting the innocent, impressing women through his actions, and supporting his allies in their battles against formidable antagonists like the Otherworld King and the Mazoku threat.
In the story, Clackey serves as a steadfast ally who participates in critical missions such as liberating forced laborers, destroying the Horizon Ladders, and confronting enemy forces directly. He competes in the Blue World tournament, where he defeats the feared duelist Lightspeed Shula and earns the X-rare card The ArcAngelia Isfiel as a reward. Throughout Gekiha Dan, he duels several key opponents including Mira, guardian of the Red World entrance, whom he defeats while helping her overcome emotional barriers. He also battles Leon to protect Kajitsu, securing victory with his new X-rare card. During the final confrontation with the Otherworld King, he lends his prized ArcAngelia Isfiel card to support the final battle.
Key relationships shape his development significantly. He shares a close friendship with protagonist Dan Bashin, transitioning from an initial rival to a trusted companion who defends Dan's actions against skeptics like Youth by challenging them to duels. His relationship with Kajitsu evolves from initial distrust due to her hostile past to determined protection against Leon's wrath. In a tag duel alongside Dan against Brustom and Heliostom, the pair overcome strategic disagreements to achieve victory. During Brave, he becomes captain of his own airship, the Beautiful Sophia, and develops a consistent romantic relationship with Angers that continues into the future.
Clackey undergoes noticeable development from a lighthearted, self-motivated fighter to a responsible leader and strategist. When Dan becomes unable to lead, he takes command of the group, managing crises such as ship repairs and coordinated attacks on enemy structures. During the mission to destroy the yellow world's Horizon Ladder, he volunteers and defeats its guardian, the Yellow Pantera doll. After a period of doubt about whether the future could be saved, he challenges his own insecurities through battle and reaffirms his commitment. In Saga Brave, set a decade later, he is revealed to have married Angers, has two children, serves as the human representative in a unified government, and dedicates himself to protecting Earth in his allies' absence.
In battle, Clackey primarily uses yellow cards featuring angelic spirits, employing light-based tactics and field control strategies. His key cards include The GreatAngelia Sophia, The CleverBeast Iberix, The Angelia Cherubim, and his signature X-rare, The ArcAngelia Isfiel. His strategy favors the Light keyword, allowing him to continuously reuse Magic during the attack step, which earned him the title of Noble Youth of Light. During Brave, he incorporates red cards alongside his signature yellow attributes. Notable abilities include his command of precise angel-type spirits and his capacity to adapt his strategy across different duels, from defensive opponents like Mira to aggressive fighters like Lightspeed Shula.
