Description
Nagisa Furukawa is a Hikarizaka Private High School student repeating her third year following extended absences from a chronic illness recurring since age five. Her frail health results in a petite 155 cm stature, a weak immune system, and a delicate appearance featuring wavy brown hair with two distinctive M-shaped ahoge, amber eyes, and frequent blushing. She typically wears the school uniform or light, girly casual clothes, often accessorized with red hair clips, later styling her hair more frequently in ponytails or buns.

Her personality blends shyness and kindness with earnest optimism, though she battles self-deprecation and low self-esteem, often prioritizing others' happiness. She speaks politely with sentence-ending honorifics and a high-pitched voice, habitually motivating herself by muttering the names of foods like anpan and pork cutlet. Despite an introverted and sometimes airheaded demeanor, she exhibits perceptiveness about others' emotions and situations, showing flashes of confidence when pursuing goals such as reviving the drama club. She passionately adores the Great Dango Family mascot and enthusiastically sings its theme song.

Nagisa lives with her parents, Akio and Sanae Furukawa, above their family bakery, Furukawa Bread. Her childhood illness nearly proved fatal due to her parents' unintentional neglect while preoccupied with their careers, though she retains no memory of these events. Her father's desperate plea saved her life, leading to her parents' increased devotion to family. During high school, she forms a close bond with Tomoya Okazaki, who assists her in rebuilding the drama club. Their efforts involve recruiting members and resolving conflicts with the choir club, succeeding with friends' help. When Tomoya faces familial strife, Nagisa invites him to live at her home.

Her background resurfaces when Tomoya investigates a play she wrote, paralleling her illness and family history. Accidentally learning of her past, she feels guilt over her parents' abandoned dreams. During a performance addressing this guilt, encouragement from her parents and Tomoya inspires her to pursue her own aspirations, leading to a successful play and Tomoya's romantic confession. They begin dating, eventually marry, and Nagisa takes the surname Okazaki.

After high school, Nagisa works as a waitress alongside Rie Nishina while Tomoya pursues a career. She becomes pregnant, naming their unborn child Ushio, borrowing the root of her name. The physical strain of her final pregnancy months exacerbates her illness. She perseveres to give birth to Ushio but dies shortly afterward. Years later, Ushio succumbs to the same mysterious illness.
