Description
In select French adaptations called "Lupan," this character is Lupin III from *Lupin III: Farewell to Nostradamus*. A master thief, he ignites the story by stealing a diamond and hiding it inside a doll. His mission transforms when the doll, and the diamond, fall into the hands of Julia, a young girl chaperoned by Fujiko Mine, pulling him into a conflict involving Julia's kidnapping and a lost book of Nostradamus prophecies.

Lupin III exhibits remarkable adaptability and resourcefulness. After stealing the diamond, he survives a hijacked plane and its bombing. He later infiltrates a high-security vault within a skyscraper owned by Douglas, Julia's father, though this attempt fails. Demonstrating ingenuity, he intentionally gets arrested to reach "Execution Island," the prison holding his uncle, Philip. Philip had previously breached the vault. After a cult kills Philip, Lupin recovers his uncle's artificial eye. This eye proves vital for bypassing the vault's biometric security, designed to scan the irises of Douglas's family.

His relationships critically shape his actions. He enlists his core team—Daisuke Jigen and Goemon Ishikawa XIII—to rescue Julia and Fujiko. Despite Fujiko's initial betrayal (acting as Julia's chaperone to steal the prophecies herself), Lupin remains dedicated to her safety after the Nostradamus Sect kidnaps and brainwashes her. His ongoing cat-and-mouse dynamic with Inspector Zenigata continues, though Zenigata remains peripheral to the central conflict.

During the climax, as the Nostradamus Sect bombs the skyscraper, Lupin III exploits the chaos to retrieve the prophecy book from the vault. He survives the building's collapse using a parachute provided by Douglas. Discovering Julia's doodles have rendered the book worthless, he discards and destroys it. Julia returns his diamond, concluding their encounter.

Lupin III's traits include tactical brilliance (leveraging the cult's bombing to access the vault), loyalty to his team, and flexibility in shifting objectives. His resilience is evident as he endures gunshots, falls, and imprisonment. The film highlights his identity as a thief who prizes challenge and loyalty above material gain, prioritizing ally rescue and discarding the now-valueless prophecies.
