Description
Igari debuted as a supporting character in the Shin Getter Robo manga, stepping in as pilot of Shin Getter-3 after Benkei Kuruma's injury. He became the unit's full-time pilot following Benkei's assimilation by the evolving Getter Dragon. During the Saotome Institute events, he was believed absorbed by Getter Rays alongside other staff when Shin Getter Robo overloaded.
Twenty-five years later, Igari resurfaced in the Getter Robo Arc storyline. He assumed leadership of the D2 Squadron, a Saotome Institute unit fighting the Andromeda Stellaration invasion. In this role, he trained new pilots like the Getter Robo Arc team and coordinated defense operations against extraterrestrial threats.
Physically, Igari changed noticeably over time. In his younger Shin Getter Robo days, he was depicted as a large, well-built man with a short buzzcut. By Getter Robo Arc, he retained his build but had aged, sporting a mustache and typically wearing a green cap; his earlier habit of wearing sunglasses was absent in the anime adaptation.
Personality-wise, Igari was initially polite and respectful toward co-pilots, though prone to panic under pressure while maintaining composure. In Getter Robo Arc, his demeanor became rougher, often admonishing the D2 Squadron for internal conflicts. Despite this shift, he remained fundamentally caring and commanded respect from the Getter Team members he supervised. His leadership involved tactical oversight during missions against the Andromeda Stellaration's forces, including deployments of the Getter D2 units.
