TV-Series
Description
Hinata Karaue is an energetic high school student from Hannō whose lifelong love of mountains stems from her father's experience as a climber. She shares a deep past with Aoi Yukimura, forged during elementary school through mountaineering adventures, including a pivotal moment witnessing the sunrise atop Mount Tanigawa. After Aoi developed acrophobia from a playground accident, their climbs stopped until high school, when Hinata actively sought to reconnect. She encouraged Aoi to face her fears and resume climbing, aiming to recreate their shared sunrise dream.
Naturally sociable and enthusiastic, Hinata thrives in groups, often spearheading plans and motivating others on climbs. She proves reliable outdoors, assisting less experienced climbers like Kokona Aoba during trail incidents. Her domestic skills, however, are limited, highlighted when she presented store-bought freeze-dried food as her own creation during a cooking contest. Her persistence helps widen Aoi's social circle, fostering friendships with fellow climbers Kokona, Kaede Saitō, and Honoka Kurosaki.
In the third season, Hinata encounters unexpected emotional turmoil as Aoi grows more independent and socially assured. She displays clear frustration when work prevents meetups and subtle jealousy when Aoi interacts with friends like Honoka and Hikari Onozuka. Feelings of isolation escalate during a group trip where she interprets Aoi's growing competence and social ease as emotional distance. This culminates in scenes of her walking alone through symbolically shadowed landscapes, reflecting her internal struggle with feeling unnecessary to Aoi's progress.
Hinata's development reveals a contrast between her typically cheerful exterior and deeper vulnerabilities concerning friendship. Her foundational childhood bond with Aoi remains central to her identity, driving both her initial push for Aoi's return to climbing and her later insecurities as that bond seems to change. This complexity adds dimension to her role as both the catalyst for Aoi's adventures and an individual navigating her own emotional challenges within their evolving relationship.
