OVA
Description
Keiichi Maebara, a teenage boy, relocated to Hinamizawa village in June 1983 seeking a fresh start after a traumatic incident in his previous hometown. His family occupies a large house built on land bought from the Sonozaki family; its size, required for his father's art gallery, fuels mistaken assumptions of wealth among villagers. Keiichi has brown hair and violet eyes. His typical attire includes a school uniform of a white collared shirt layered over a red t-shirt with black pants, or casual wear featuring a red vest over a black sleeveless shirt paired with green shorts.

Prior to moving, Keiichi endured significant emotional turmoil. Initial academic struggles gave way to arrogance after an intelligence test revealed his aptitude for contextually relevant problems, leading to advanced cram school placement. However, diminishing praise and bullying drove him to relieve stress by shooting younger children with an airsoft gun. One incident resulted in a girl being shot in the eye, instilling profound guilt. His confession to his parents prompted the family's relocation. This event forged his deep protective instincts, particularly towards Hōjō Satoko, whom he views as a younger sister.

In Hinamizawa, Keiichi swiftly befriended Ryūgū Rena, Sonozaki Mion, Furude Rika, and Satoko through school club activities. Charismatic, competitive, and persuasive—earning him the moniker "Magician of Words"—he nonetheless displays social obliviousness, especially regarding Mion's romantic feelings. Under stress, he is prone to intense paranoia, exacerbated by Hinamizawa Syndrome, a condition inducing hallucinations and violent behavior. Tragic manifestations occur across story arcs: in *Onikakushi-hen*, he murders Rena and Mion during a psychotic break; in *Tatarigoroshi-hen*, he kills Satoko's abusive uncle and contemplates killing Takano Miyo.

Across multiple timelines, Keiichi subconsciously retains memories of prior events, utilizing this ability to avert tragedies. This proves pivotal in aiding Rika's challenge against fate, notably rallying villagers against institutional corruption in *Minagoroshi-hen* and inspiring Rika's resolve in *Matsuribayashi-hen*. His weapon of choice is Hōjō Satoshi's baseball bat, reflecting latent baseball skills despite initial disbelief from friends regarding his athleticism.

In *Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei*, set 35 years later, Keiichi works as an adult congressional secretary in Tokyo, married with a son named Keitarō. Villagers hope he will secure senate election to advance Hinamizawa's recognition as a world heritage site.

The OVA *Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kaku: Outbreak* depicts an alternate scenario where Hinamizawa undergoes quarantine due to a viral outbreak. Keiichi, alongside Rena and Mion, becomes embroiled in the escalating village chaos. Confused and frightened by the quarantine, he participates in efforts to escape amid rising tensions and violence, facing external threats and internal conflicts.
