Keiichi Maebara, a teenage boy, recently moved to Hinamizawa village with his antique-dealer parents. Their frequent business travels grant him considerable independence in the new home. Naturally sociable and confident, Keiichi excels at forming friendships swiftly. He rapidly integrates into the local children's group, bonding closely with Rena Ryuuguu, Mion Sonozaki, Satoko Houjou, and Rika Furude, and regularly joins their club activities.

Keiichi displays a powerful protective instinct, particularly toward Satoko and Rika. He demonstrates resourcefulness and problem-solving abilities when confronting dangers or mysteries threatening his friends or the village. This protectiveness occasionally triggers impulsive reactions if he senses a threat to those he cherishes.

His connection to Hinamizawa and its residents deepens over time, transforming him from an outsider into someone profoundly invested in the community's welfare and his friends' safety. Loyalty to them defines his character and frequently motivates his actions. While generally cheerful and outgoing, he shifts to intense seriousness and determination when facing adversity or defending others.
