Description
Chevelle Kayama, known as Schubel Quill (シュベール Kayama Shubēru) in the Japanese version, appears in the Goha 6th Elementary arc as a Tactical Advisor for its Heavy Cavalry Duel Club. He remains constantly accompanied by his pet pigeon, Pidgetrap Quill—also called Hatrap—who holds equal status as a fellow Tactical Advisor within the club.
His striking purple curly hair and golden eyes complement an outfit consisting of a light tan or yellow jacket layered over a white collared shirt, white pants fastened by a skewed brown belt, black boots, and white gloves. A green bowtie accents his attire, while a red cape drapes over his right shoulder. His left shoulder bears a specialized brown pad serving as Pidgetrap's perch.
Arrogant yet deeply loyal and respectful toward friends, Chevelle shows particular devotion to Pidgetrap. He frequently interprets the pigeon’s coos into speech, concluding such translations with "coo." His own speech blends occasional French phrases with a trademark habit of ending sentences with his name. During duels, he and Pidgetrap adopt a trickster persona against opponents like Luke, emphasizing dramatic flair and pranks when activating Trap Cards.
As a duelist, Chevelle wields a Winged Beast-themed deck concentrated on Trap Cards. He never duels independently, instead executing moves dictated by Pidgetrap’s instructions. Key monsters include Bombird, Tyhone, Bombheart, and Phantom Dove Night Vision. His Spell and Trap arsenal features Heart Foolery, Counter Bomb, Counter Shield, Heartbreak Look, and Shot through the Heart. He obtained Counter Heart via Shot through the Heart’s effect, later discarding it to activate Counter Bomb.
His documented duels include a loss to Tatsuhisa Kamijo in Episode 37. Later, during Episodes 46–47, he participated in an off-screen group victory with fellow Heavy Cavalry Duel Club members Asana Mutsuba, Tiadosia Kallister, Galian Townsend, and Caterpillio Zomyoji against Goha 66 members.
Operating under Asana Mutsuba’s leadership in the club hierarchy, Chevelle first appeared alongside Galian Townsend, witnessing Asana’s declaration against Rush Dueling after Yuga Ohdo’s duel with Nail Saionji.
