Description
Oscar is the Guardian of Fire in the Shinchou universe and one of the nine guardians who oversee the realm in the anime Koi Suru Tenshi Angelique: Kokoro no Mezameru Toki. He is a young man of twenty-two, born into a soldier family on a plains planet, and he has both a younger brother and a younger sister. His background as a soldier is reflected in his bearing and his choice to be seen frequently in armor. He is tall and muscular, with fiery red hair and ice blue eyes. A messenger first came to him when he was seventeen, and he became a Guardian at eighteen, taking on a Sacrea whose nature is tied to military affairs, destruction, and creation. Among the nine guardians, his power represents fire and strength.
In personality, Oscar is passionate, active, and outgoing, with a strong fondness for women and a flirtatious manner that makes him something of a ladies' man. He is also described as noble and brave, though his confidence can tip into a chauvinistic streak. He enjoys swordsmanship, especially fencing, as well as darts, roulette, billiards, and flirting. His tastes lean toward bold and lively things, such as red roses, cappuccino, and ethnic cuisine, and he is warm and direct in his dealings with others.
His role in the story centers on guiding and encouraging the newly chosen legendary Etoile, Ange. Early on, he is the one who pulls her out of her hesitation and shyness, whisking her away to a village festival and scolding her for refusing to dance, which leads her to perform a folk dance. He also challenges her reluctance to accept her position as Etoile, urging her to look for her own eternal galaxy and to find strength and purpose within herself. Through these moments he serves as a catalyst for her growth, helping her move from insecurity toward embracing her mission to awaken the Queen of the Seijuu universe and release the power of the Sacrea over the endangered land.
Oscar's relationships within the guardian circle are defined by clear affinities. His best friend is Julious, the Guardian of Light, while he gets along least with Lumiale, the Guardian of Water. His most important relationship in the series, however, is with Ange. He is playful with her and often teases her, but as the story progresses his feelings deepen into genuine love, sparked by her kindness and determination. This development reveals a more sincere and emotionally open side beneath his flirtatious exterior, as he comes to care for her not merely as someone to charm but as a person he wants to protect and support.
As the Guardian of Fire, Oscar's notable abilities include control over the Sacrea of fire, which is linked to strength and to military affairs, destruction, and creation. He contributes this power to Ange's mission alongside the other guardians. In addition to his elemental authority, his training as a soldier and his skill with the sword, particularly fencing, make him a capable fighter. His combination of martial ability, boldness, and emotional warmth defines him as one of the more dynamic and approachable figures among the nine guardians.
