Description
Ritsuka Uenoyama, a high school student with short bluish-black hair, blue eyes, and standing 175 cm tall, is introduced as a talented guitarist who has lost his passion for music. He typically wears a dark unbuttoned jacket over a white undershirt, dark trousers, and white shoes.
His personality blends irritability and bluntness with deep compassion, especially towards those close to him. Easily annoyed by small talk or disruptions like his nap time during school breaks, he nonetheless demonstrates genuine attentiveness to others' emotional states. Academically competent in theory-based subjects, he can be smug about high test scores. Romantic situations evoke a reserved, flustered demeanor, earning him teasing from his older sister, Yayoi Uenoyama, about his "little brother energy."
Musically, Ritsuka began playing guitar in sixth grade after receiving a black Fender Telecaster from his father. Diligent practice developed significant skill by high school, though his initial excitement faded. His musical tastes, influenced by his father, span rock, alternative, grunge, electronica, and other genres, prioritizing creative freedom over constraints during performances.
His life shifts upon encountering classmate Mafuyu Sato asleep on school stairs with a broken Gibson guitar. Despite initial reluctance, Ritsuka repairs the instrument and agrees to teach Mafuyu. He introduces Mafuyu to his bandmates—drummer Akihiko Kaji and bassist Haruki Nakayama—and, deeply moved by Mafuyu's singing, invites him to join their band "given" as vocalist, reigniting Ritsuka's own musical passion.
Their relationship deepens into romance, with Ritsuka becoming Mafuyu's boyfriend. He supports Mafuyu through emotional turmoil linked to Mafuyu's past, including distress caused by childhood friend Hiragi Kashima. Ritsuka encourages Mafuyu to confront these feelings, leading to Mafuyu officially joining the band. After "given's" first live performance, their romantic relationship progresses, with Ritsuka occasionally expressing spontaneous physical affection followed by embarrassment.
Beyond "given," Ritsuka occasionally works as a support guitarist for Hiiragi Kashima's band "syh," collaborating with Shizusumi Yagi. He also contributes to completing a song left by Mafuyu's late ex-boyfriend, Yuki Yoshida.
Additional background includes part-time jobs at a convenience store and moving company, past participation in junior high basketball, an aversion to whitebait, and cross-dressing during a school festival that drew comments about his legs. He earned the title "He who goes home on the last train."
