Description
Touka Satomi is an eleven-year-old magical girl and a primary antagonist in the initial story arc. She has russet hair and eyes, stands 148 centimeters tall, and her soul gem is a red bow-shaped jewel worn as a choker. Her weapon is a parasol, and her wish was expressly for the power of conversion, declared as, "I wish for the power to [convert]! Allow us to take them from you, Kyubey!"
She is both the daughter and a patient of the director of the Satomi Medical Center, and is a prodigy in astrophysics. Surrounded by her own gadgets, she tirelessly researches her dream to know everything about the universe. She is a fifth-grade student at St. Lilliana Academy and employs the formal Japanese pronoun "watakushi."
Together with Nemu Hiiragi and Alina Gray, Touka co-founded the organization the Wings of the Magius. Their objective was to create a world without Witches and achieve the salvation of all magical girls. Operating from Kamihama City, the Magius developed the Doppel system, a power that allowed magical girls to use a manifestation of their inner turmoil without becoming Witches, though its use was initially confined to the city.
Her backstory centers on her cousin, Nayuta Satomi, and her uncle, Tasuke Satomi. She was once hospitalized, where a nurse would sing to her—a memory she later used to comfort an ailing comrade. She was also a close friend of Ui Tamaki, though following the events that led to Ui's disappearance and transformation into the being known as Eve, both she and Nemu initially held no memory of Ui.
As a leader of the Magius, Touka's actions were often pragmatic and driven by a sense of necessity, sometimes clashing with others on moral grounds. She advocated for methods such as using radio waves tuned to a specific wavelength only magical girls could hear for recruitment, and spreading frightening rumors to traumatize people into compliance, believing the magical girl system operated on a principle of survival of the fittest. This led to a confrontation with fellow Magius member Mifuyu Azusa, whom Touka slapped during an argument over sacrificing people for their goals.
Her Doppel, Pennen Nolde, is the Doppel of daydreaming. It takes the form of a Match Seller that divides its master's lifespan into matches. Each lit match grants a "What if" wish, but when the matches are exhausted, the master's life ends, making its power potent yet carrying a severe risk.
After the resolution of the conflict with Walpurgisnacht and Eve, Touka is convinced of Ui Tamaki's existence. She works alongside Iroha Tamaki, Ui, Nemu, and Lil' Kyubey, becomes involved with the Kamihama Magia Union, and participates in efforts to recruit magical girls to the city in the events known as Arc 2.5.
