Description
Falala A. Larm is a legendary spirit who resides within the ancient clock tower of Paparajuku, the central setting of the anime. Her existence is tied directly to the passage of time and the dreams of idols, as she only awakens from her slumber when the tower's clock hand moves, powered by the energy of idol performances and heartfelt dreams. She is an ancient being, described as a nature spirit associated with the sun and daytime, which contrasts with her counterpart, Galala.
In terms of personality, Falala is consistently portrayed as a calm, kind, and tender individual. She possesses a gentle and caring nature, befitting her role as a benevolent figure who supports aspiring idols. This personality is reflected in her elegant and serene presence, as she is often shown bestowing blessings upon main characters like Yui Yumekawa and her friends in the form of rare and powerful costumes known as Dream Cyalume Coords during the special event called Super Idol Time.
Falala’s primary motivation and central role in the narrative revolve around her connection to her sister, Galala S. Leep. In ancient times, while Falala was able to freely interact with and help young girls become idols during the day, Galala was consumed by loneliness as the guardian of the night. Consumed by jealousy, Galala cast a spell that put Falala into an eternal, deep sleep. Consequently, Falala’s role is to be awakened, and she serves as the arbiter of the Idol Time Harp, a key item that helps manage the flow of time and dreams within the PriPara world. The main characters, particularly Yui Yumekawa, work to find a solution that will allow both sisters to remain awake and coexist harmoniously.
Key relationships are central to her story. Her most significant tie is to her elder twin sister, Galala, whose actions are the direct cause of her dormant state. She also refers to the divine idols Jewlie and Janice as her younger sisters, indicating she is part of a larger family of powerful spiritual beings in the PriPara cosmology. Among the mortal idols, she shares a strong bond with Yui Yumekawa and the members of the unit MY☆DREAM, as they are the ones who awaken her and receive her blessings. The mascots of Paparajuku, such as Punicorn, are also shown to be familiar with her.
Regarding her development, the narrative reveals the tragic circumstances of her past and works towards her eventual progress. For much of the story, she exists in a fragile state, unable to stay awake permanently. A crucial development is the revelation of the mutual dependency between the sisters: Falala can only remain awake while Galala is asleep, and vice versa. The resolution of the plot involves the protagonists finding a way to circumvent this curse, allowing both to achieve a state of coexistence. Her abilities are intrinsically linked to this theme of rest and awakening. She has the power to grant the Idol Time Harp and bestow Super Idol Time upon performers, which allows her to hand over the rare and powerful Dream Cyalume Coords to worthy idols. She is visually distinctive, appearing as a youthful, mint-green-haired spirit with large gold eyes that contain the image of clock hands pointing upwards.
