Description
Kikka Kobayashi, originally named Kikka Kitamoto, was one of three orphans taken aboard the Earth Federation ship *White Base* during the One Year War, alongside Letz Cofan and Katz Kobayashi. They served as informal mascots, sometimes causing minor disruptions among the crew, and witnessed significant military engagements. These included Ramba Ral's final assault on the *White Base* and Char Aznable's infiltration of the Earth Federation headquarters at Jaburo. During the Jaburo incident, the children helped disarm bombs planted by infiltrators, an act which secured their permission to remain aboard as the ship departed Earth for space-based operations at Solomon and A Baoa Qu. Following the Battle of A Baoa Qu, the children displayed nascent Newtype abilities, psychically guiding Amuro Ray to locate the lifeboat carrying the surviving *White Base* crew.

After the war, Hayato Kobayashi and his wife, Fraw Bow, formally adopted Kikka alongside Katz and Letz. The family visited Amuro Ray's residence in Cheyenne, Wyoming, before relocating to Japan. Kikka maintained a close relationship with her adoptive mother during this period, particularly assisting Fraw Bow through her pregnancy.

In adulthood, Kikka pursued higher education in space, focusing on literary studies. She gained recognition by winning the Mt. Fuji New Writer's Award during the Second Neo Zeon War. A year after the Earth Federation declared Amuro Ray officially deceased, Kikka resolved to write a biographical work aimed at humanizing Amuro, countering his public image as a legendary war hero. The director of the *Von Braun Times* agreed to publish her unedited account pending satisfactory completion before her graduation.

To research this project, Kikka returned to the Kobayashi family home in Shizuoka during a Christmas break. Fraw Bow supported her efforts by providing personal anecdotes about Amuro from the pre-war period and the early phases of the One Year War. She also gave Kikka a letter written by the late Hayato Kobayashi detailing his experiences during the Jaburo operation and the business card of Kai Shiden. After reviewing Hayato’s account, Kikka contacted Kai, who supplied her with a comprehensive list of personnel affiliated with the *White Base* and Karaba, alongside Amuro’s network of allies within and outside the Earth Federation.

Indirect references to Kikka’s later life appear in the OVA adaptation of *Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn* and its television re-cut, where two background characters bear a strong resemblance to her and Letz as adults. These characters are depicted observing Mineva Lao Zabi’s public revelations concerning Laplace’s Box.
