As king, he carries a dignified, regal air, often dressed practically in a long beige coat with rolled-up sleeves, a dark maroon fur-lined collar, a black shirt, a tan sash, dark pants, and sturdy boots. Originally a natural leader among outlaws who concealed a heart of gold, his life changed after imprisonment in Count Nidol Migam's territory within Falmuth. Assigned to lead the doomed Frontier Expedition Force scouting the Orc Lord in the Great Jura Forest, he intimidated his overseer Rommel with his wit and charisma. Youm convinced Rommel to dissolve the contract magic binding him and his comrades, securing Rommel's unwavering loyalty. During this expedition, Youm discovered the monster town of Tempest and met Rimuru Tempest. Rimuru, seeking to elevate Tempest's reputation, nominated Youm to take credit for defeating the Orc Lord. Hesitant at first, Youm was persuaded after witnessing the town's harmony and warm-hearted residents. He embraced the plan, becoming a hero and a secret vassal to the Demon Lord.
