TV Special
Description
Ayaka, identified as Astrid in certain localizations, is a capable Pokémon Trainer from the Kalos region. Her visual design mirrors the female Ace Trainer class featured in Pokémon X and Y. She possesses a Key Stone, worn as a right earring, and an Absolite for initiating Mega Evolution.
Her initial appearance occurred in a forest where she encountered Alain and accepted his battle challenge. She deployed her strongest Pokémon, Absol, against his Charizard. Following initial exchanges showcasing Absol's defensive prowess, both Trainers ignited Mega Evolution. Despite Mega Absol enduring attacks like Dragon Claw and Flamethrower, it fell to Mega Charizard X's Blast Burn. Ayaka commended Absol's effort post-battle and accepted Alain's proposal for a future rematch.
Later, during a clash in Avignon Town, Ayaka faced Ash. Her Pyroar was overcome by Pikachu's Electro Ball after employing Flamethrower and Fire Fang. Her Meowstic then defeated Ash's Froakie using Charge Beam, countering a Water Pulse. Ayaka finally sent out Absol, promptly triggering its Mega Evolution. Mega Absol countered Hawlucha's High Jump Kick with Shadow Claw, evaded a Karate Chop, and ultimately felled Hawlucha with a long-range Dark Pulse. Following her victory, Bonnie briefly attempted a marriage proposal between Ayaka and Clemont before being halted.
Ayaka competed in the Lumiose Conference, advancing through early rounds where her Absol defeated an Amoonguss. She reached the quarterfinals to face Ash once more. During this rematch, her Absol used Psycho Cut against Hawlucha, but the attack missed. Hawlucha then defeated Absol with Flying Press, eliminating Ayaka at the Top 8 level. This battle marked Ash's first anime encounter against a prior movie opponent.
Ayaka's confirmed Pokémon team includes a male Pyroar, a female Meowstic, and her signature Absol. This composition makes her the sole known Trainer to own both Generation VI Pokémon species exhibiting gender differences. She secured at least eight Kalos Gym Badges before the Lumiose Conference. Her Absol demonstrated the moves Psycho Cut, Megahorn, Dark Pulse, and Shadow Claw across various encounters.
In the German dub, her name was changed to Annabelle to avoid confusion with another character named Astrid, while the Castilian Spanish dub retained the English name. A manga adaptation of a film depicted her using Absol against Ash's Hawlucha, aligning with her animated portrayals.
