Description
Kinako Sakurakoji is a main character introduced in the second season of the anime. She is a first-year student who transfers to Yuigaoka Girls' High School in Tokyo, having moved from a rural area in Hokkaido to pursue her dream of living in a big city. She lives alone in Tokyo and initially feels overwhelmed and anxious about her unfamiliar urban surroundings. Her journey as a school idol begins when she gets lost on campus and is discovered and recruited by Kanon Shibuya. Before joining Liella!, she spent much of her time outdoors on her family's ranch estate, which has given her a great affinity for understanding and communicating with animals. Within the school, she becomes the secretary of the student council and, after the third-year students graduate, eventually assumes the role of student council president.
Kinako is characterized by her kind, sweet, and cheerful disposition, always ready to offer her support to others. She is a hard worker who does not easily back down from challenges, although she is not particularly athletic and has average grades. Despite being sociable, she can be a little shy and awkward, with a tendency to be loud and easily startled. Her personality has an eccentric and airheaded quality, yet she is ultimately level-headed and capable. One of her most notable traits is her honest and direct manner, which can sometimes come across as innocently insensitive, such as when she assumed Kanon was already the club president due to the others not seeming suited for the role. Reflecting her rural upbringing, she has a habit of referring to herself in the third person and often ends her sentences with "~ssu".
Before joining Liella!, Kinako admired school idols for their beauty but believed becoming one herself was an impossible dream. However, after witnessing the dazzling performances of Liella!, she was inspired to try and change herself, leading to her decision to join the group. Her primary motivation is to overcome her personal limitations, including her lack of confidence and athletic ability, in order to perform at the same level as her admired seniors.
Within the story, Kinako serves as a second lyricist for Liella!, complementing Kanon's role in writing the group's songs.
