Description
Edge's Captain, unnamed in official media, served as a mercenary leader hired by the Empire to protect Excavation Site #74 before Panzer Dragoon Saga. He commanded a team that included the protagonist Edge, whom he had rescued and raised from childhood. The Captain saw Edge as a son, often telling him so, but regretted failing to provide what he deemed proper parental care. He worried intensely about Edge's future, convinced the young mercenary possessed the intelligence for schooling in the Imperial Capital. To secure this future, he discussed Edge's education with the excavation site director, planning enrollment after their security contract ended. Financial concerns about affording the schooling burdened him, coupled with fears that Edge might one day feel ashamed of his adoptive father's lack of education.

While guarding the site, the Captain grew uneasy about the Empire's intense focus on the dig, suspecting they desperately sought something specific while deliberately keeping his team uninformed. He initially relied on the site's defensive wind net to simplify their duty by deterring monsters. Just before Craymen's Black Fleet invaded, the Captain acted protectively. When Edge recklessly chased a pure-type monster inside the ruins, the Captain yelled for him to flee, not fight. Later, as Edge became transfixed upon discovering the girl Azel, the Captain shouted instructions to shoot the floor beneath the attacking monster, neutralizing the immediate threat and urging a swift retreat from the unstable structure.

The Captain died during the Black Fleet's assault on Excavation Site #74, shot by the attacker Zastava. Mortally wounded, he expressed surprise at seeing Edge alive, having witnessed him fall from a bridge. With his final breaths, he warned Edge to avoid the Empire, stating they eliminate loose ends and would kill him. He advised pursuing Craymen instead, believing recovering Azel might offer a chance at survival. Before dying, he directed Edge to retrieve items from his pocket: his personal diary and a map. The diary's final entry posed the question, "Will Edge ever call me… father?" Known as the Leader’s Note, this diary provided Edge crucial insight into his Captain’s thoughts and background.
