The Racehorse Owner is a central, eccentric, and mysterious figure who arrives at the stable with a cat jockey in an ambitious attempt to turn the perennial loser horse Mannenbillie into a top-class racer. He has a daughter named Umashiko, who is around twenty years old. Their relationship is strained and dysfunctional. Umashiko possesses a cynical personality, speaks very little, and observes the world with deep skepticism. Her arrival in the second season introduces further complications to the ongoing story. The Owner's methods and decisions, especially the introduction of the feline jockey, consistently generate challenges for the trainer and stable staff, driving the series' unconventional plot. During the second season, the narrative follows Umashiko as she starts to find her own path forward.
