Description
Ryousuke Takahashi commands the Akagi RedSuns street racing team, renowned as "Akagi's White Comet" for his undefeated record and precision driving in his white Mazda Savanna RX-7 FC3S. He relentlessly pursues his "Fastest Racing Theory," employing meticulous technical analysis to optimize car performance and predict race outcomes, a method his brother Keisuke finds difficult to grasp. His medical studies, influenced by parental expectations, ended abruptly due to a personal tragedy: his college relationship with Kaori concluded when she died by suicide under familial pressure surrounding an arranged marriage to his mentor, Rin Hojo. This event profoundly shaped his reserved nature and intense dedication to street racing.
In *Legend 1: Awakening*, Ryousuke orchestrates the RedSuns' expansion into Kanto. After Keisuke loses to an unknown Toyota AE86 on Mount Akina, Ryousuke identifies the driver as Takumi Fujiwara. He observes Takumi's race against Keisuke, analyzing the winning "gutter technique." A post-credits scene hints at his awareness of future rivals like Takeshi Nakazato.
Following his own defeat by Takumi later, Ryousuke retires temporarily from racing. He returns specifically to challenge Team Emperor's leader, Kyoichi Sudo, exploiting a flaw in Sudo's technique related to right-hand turns. After disbanding the RedSuns, he establishes Project D to conquer time records across Japan. He recruits Takumi and Keisuke as drivers, assuming a mentor role and providing strategic advice during races, such as instructing Takumi to avoid rearview mirrors during weight-shifting maneuvers.
His technical expertise includes identifying car modifications by sound and adjusting his FC's setup, exemplified by detuning its engine to 260 horsepower for enhanced control during downhill battles. His analytical approach involves studying opponents' driving styles and vehicle specifications to develop precise counter-strategies.
A deep-seated rivalry persists with Rin Hojo, reignited when Hojo resurfaces to challenge Team Spiral. Their final race on the Toyo Turnpike resolves long-simmering tensions from their past.
