Dr. Kyudai Garaki, operating under the alias Daruma Ujiko, is a scientist approximately 120 years old. Manifesting a longevity Quirk called Life Force early on, he concealed this ability, presenting himself publicly as Quirkless. His scientific career began around 70 years prior with his proposal of the Quirk Singularity Theory, predicting uncontrollable growth in Quirk power over generations. Rejected and ostracized by the scientific community for this theory, Garaki vanished from public view. Following this disgrace, All For One discovered Garaki and endorsed his theory. Grateful for this patronage, Garaki duplicated his Life Force Quirk, giving the original to All For One while retaining the duplicate. This exchange dramatically extended both their lifespans and forged Garaki's unwavering, lifelong loyalty to All For One, whom he regarded as a true friend and benefactor. To fund covert research operations, Garaki established Jaku General Hospital as its chairman. He expanded this network using various aliases, including Dr. Tsubasa, founding care homes, orphanages, and partnering with private clinics. His public persona projected a philanthropic doctor dedicated to Quirk-based healthcare research. Behind this facade, the network facilitated unethical experiments: harvesting Quirk data from unwitting patients and housing children with desirable Quirks for selective breeding or experimentation. Notably, while posing as Dr. Tsubasa, he diagnosed a young Izuku Midoriya as Quirkless and discouraged his hero ambitions. Garaki's core scientific achievements encompass Quirk duplication, transfer, and bio-engineering. His key creations are: * **Nomu**: Bio-engineered beings crafted from human corpses implanted with multiple Quirks. Garaki referred to them as his "children" and the advanced High-End variants as "masterpieces." He expressed sadness at their destruction and apologized for premature deployment. Created as offerings for All For One, they were later utilized by Tomura Shigaraki under All For One's command. * **Quirk-Destroying Bullets**: Developed by reverse-engineering Eri's Rewind Quirk, Garaki refined the serum to isolate Quirk-erasing properties. All For One later used a modified version to heal critical injuries and restore his prime physical condition. * **Kurogiri**: Created by reanimating the corpse of deceased U.A. High student Oboro Shirakumo and implanting the Warp Gate Quirk alongside others. After All Might inflicted critical injuries on All For One, Garaki played a vital role in sustaining his operations. He retrieved All For One’s body, placed him on life support, and worked to repair the damage, developing a Hyper Regeneration Quirk. He also engineered the transfer of All For One's original Quirk to Shigaraki, modifying Shigaraki's body to withstand it. Initially doubting Shigaraki's worthiness and demanding proof, Garaki accepted him as All For One's successor after Shigaraki defeated the Meta Liberation Army and subdued Gigantomachia. Garaki then provided Shigaraki with stockpiled Quirks, Nomu, and Quirk-destroying bullets. Garaki oversaw numerous experiments: * Implanting an incomplete copy of the "Decay" Quirk into Tenko Shimura (later Tomura Shigaraki). * Attempting to restore the severely burned Toya Todoroki (Dabi). The procedure failed, leaving Toya unable to safely use his Quirk. Garaki predicted Toya had one month to live, but Toya escaped. * Overseeing "Experiment Number 6," a child lacking self-awareness, as a potential vessel for All For One. * Conducting the "Villain Factory" project, using Trigger drugs to create Instant Villains and Next-Level Villains for Quirk compatibility testing. Personality-wise, Garaki was eccentric, secretive, and cautious, avoiding direct contact and preferring electronic communication or warping Quirks. He displayed pride in his creations but cowardice under threat, often panicking during confrontations. Despite his unethical methods, he showed genuine care for All For One and his Nomu. He believed hatred was a powerful motivator, noting its role in sustaining both Toya and All For One. During the Paranormal Liberation War, heroes raided Jaku Hospital. Garaki deployed High-End Nomu as a distraction but was ultimately captured. His incarceration did not erase his legacy, which persisted through Shigaraki's enhanced abilities, the distributed Quirk-erasing bullets, and the Nomu released before his capture.
