Description
Tohya Ebata first appeared as a mysterious, exceptionally skilled fighter with an impressive record in unofficial bouts, often seen buying cartons of cards at shops. His childhood was defined by academic excellence and top grades, though his parents disregarded his achievements in Vanguard despite numerous shop tournament wins. His grandmother gifted him his first deck, urging him to balance study and enjoyment; her influence became pivotal after her severe illness and passing, motivating his vow to become a doctor. This ambition framed defeating Danji Momoyama as his final goal before quitting Vanguard.

Significant psychological distress followed his losses to Danji and Yu-yu Kondo, fueling a destructive period. Manipulated by Masanori, he aggressively targeted Team Blackout, defeating members like Megumi Okura and Yu-yu, and burned the team's banner—an act causing profound grief. This culminated in repeated cardfight losses to Danji, which gradually stabilized his mindset. Danji then appointed him the new leader of Team Blackout, positioning the role as atonement, a decision that shocked the team but marked Tohya's redemption.

As leader, Tohya demonstrated maturity and responsibility, striving to shoulder Danji's former duties and repair the emotional and physical damage he inflicted. He initially attempted to manage these burdens alone before accepting support. His leadership involved protecting other teams from threats like Team Daybreak by safeguarding banners and forming alliances, contrasting his earlier methods. Despite this growth, he retained a tendency to overspend, frequently exhausting his budget on booster boxes and cartons—a habit persisting even after leaving the team, often drawing criticism.

In later tournaments, Tohya participated as an invitee in Jinki Mukae's Deluxe events, ranking first in his group during the first tournament. In the subsequent Deluxe, he placed second in Group C after losing to Megumi Okura but defeating other preliminary fighters. He advanced to the quarterfinals but was eliminated by Gui. Following this, Tohya stepped down as Team Blackout leader, passing the role to Yu-yu Kondo to pursue personal goals, though his financial habits remained.

His design features blonde hair tied in a ponytail, typically wearing a white t-shirt under a red coat, a red and silver ring on his left hand, and a pendant around his neck. Personality-wise, he balances a mature, hardworking demeanor evident in medical studies and odd jobs with a childlike side reflected in shared food and deckbuilding preferences with Yu-yu. This duality persisted from vengeful antagonist to redemption-seeking leader, with core traits of impulsivity and responsibility continuing to coexist.
