Description
Satsuki Toreishi, the third eldest of the five Toreishi sisters, is seventeen years old at the story's start, turning eighteen in the later episode "Song of the Wind". She pilots the agile air superiority fighter HB-03, a craft comparable to the Mikoyan MiG-29 or Sukhoi Su-27, reflecting her specialization in dogfighting and close-quarters aerial combat. As a central figure within her group, Satsuki grapples with significant insecurity about her physical appearance and flying abilities, despite her skills being potentially the best among her sisters. Moments of hesitation are often overcome by invoking the memory of her father, Yuma Toreishi, a fighter pilot who disappeared during a mission and is presumed dead; her profound admiration for him forms a major component of her character and motivations.
Her flying prowess initially propelled the group to prominence. During an early exercise where the sisters acted as contractually obligated targets for rival idol group SNAP, her sisters were quickly eliminated. Attempting to present an easy target herself, Satsuki grew frustrated by her opponents' incompetence, leading her to execute an abrupt mid-air stop by bringing her F-14 into a nose-up position. Though eventually tagged, her aircraft stalled and fell; she managed to restart the engines and recover. This incident attracted their future producer.
A source of personal anxiety stems from her younger sister Uzuki, who possesses a more physically developed figure, exacerbating Satsuki's existing neuroses. Within the group's musical performances, Satsuki occasionally performs duets with her youngest sister, Mina.
Satsuki demonstrates character development across the series. In "Song of the Wind", when the idol duo Fever Girls are shot down and captured by millionaire Petol Devas's private army, Satsuki resolves to undertake a solo rescue mission after official forces decline to intervene. This decision, driven by loyalty and duty, showcases a shift from her earlier insecurities towards greater determination. This action leads directly into the final episode, "To the Place of Our Dreams", where, disregarding potential consequences for her idol career, she attacks Devas's island to free the Fever Girls. Her sisters ultimately join her in this mission.
