TV Special
Description
Elisio is a prominent character introduced in the Pokémon: Mega Evolution Special IV, where he serves as the president of Lysandre Labs, a large and advanced research facility. Known in other localizations as Lysandre, his character is defined by a complex public persona that masks deeper and more ambiguous intentions. Outwardly, he presents himself as a benefactor, supporting research dedicated to the well-being of Pokémon and for peaceful purposes, a front that leads many to view him as a philanthropist. However, individuals like Malva, a member of the Kalos Elite Four, harbor suspicions about his true motives, suggesting he has a hidden agenda.
Elisio's background is tied directly to his position as the head of Lysandre Labs, where he oversees various projects, some of which are highly secretive. His primary role in the story is that of a mentor and manipulator to the protagonist, Alan. He is the one who provides Alan with a Mega Ring and a Charizardite X, challenging him to defeat ten Mega Evolution users in consecutive battles. This challenge serves the dual purpose of testing Alan's strength for Elisio's own interests while giving Alan the power he desires to protect what is important to him. A key part of his motivation is connected to a massive and powerful ancient artifact called the Giant Rock or megalith, which is kept in a containment unit within his laboratory. Elisio claims that this energy chamber is necessary to prevent a catastrophic event similar to one that previously occurred in the Hoenn region, though his true intentions for the artifact remain unclear.
His relationship with Alan is central to the special. Elisio acts as his commanding benefactor, giving him orders and using his skills for his own purposes. Despite Alan's initial loyalty, this dynamic is strained when the true scope of Elisio's plans begins to surface. Another key relationship involves Mairin and her Chespin. When the Chespin falls into a coma after an encounter with small, green, blob-like creatures within the labs, Elisio publicly vows to help and sends Alan on a mission to find a cure, using the incident to further his own agenda regarding the Mega Evolution system. These creatures are later revealed to be Zygarde Cells or Cores, subjects of secret experiments within his laboratory that led to the Chespin's energy-based injury.
Regarding his notable abilities as a Pokémon Trainer, Elisio is shown to possess a Key Stone, allowing him to Mega Evolve his own Pokémon. His known Pokémon include a Pyroar, which appears to be his most trusted partner and is often seen outside its Poké Ball. This Pyroar is a serious and tough battler, known to have defeated Alan's Charmeleon in a past battle and to have fought alongside a Shiny Mega Gyarados owned by Elisio. The character's development throughout the special moves from a seemingly noble figure to one whose manipulative nature and secretive projects, particularly those involving the Zygarde organism, become central to the unfolding conflict.
