OVA
Description
Laura Sullivan, an American from Sacramento, California, loses her mother during an attack by the Muge Zorbados Empire. Discovered in the aftermath by Sara Yuki, she is adopted by Professor Kotaro Hazuki and integrated into the Cyber Beast Force's support network. Her small dog, Becky, is her constant companion.
She forms close bonds within the Jyusenki Tai, especially a deep friendship with the youngest member, Masato Shikibu. An encounter with Shapiro Keats prior to his defection to the Muge Empire leaves an emotional mark when he teaches her a song he composed; despite this, she remains loyal to Earth's defenders.
In the original television series, Laura provides crucial emotional support, grounding the team and humanizing the war's impact. This intensifies after General Ross Igor sacrifices his life protecting her from enemy infiltration in episode 29, "General Attack Pt II." Later revelations identify Laura as the daughter of Alan Igor and granddaughter of Ross Igor, deepening her familial ties to the Cyber Beast Force.
The OVA "God Bless Dancouga" expands Laura's role significantly. Following the Muge Empire's defeat, she stays with the extended Cyber Beast Force. When Masato Shikibu's father is killed by a Muge survivor, her fate becomes further entwined with the team's struggles. Laura becomes a target as the resurrected, monstrous Emperor Muge Zorbados possesses her body for vengeance. This forces the Cyber Beast Force into the ethical dilemma of combating her possessed form while seeking her freedom.
Laura exhibits quiet resilience, kindness, and loyalty, though she experiences anxiety in danger. Her determination manifests in her refusal to surrender, exemplified by her declaration, "I won't give up! I'll never give up!" She shows a nurturing side towards Masato and Becky, while her OVA possession underscores her vulnerability to supernatural threats.
Her significance extends beyond personal bonds. Her Igor lineage and role as Emperor Muge Zorbados's vessel make her pivotal to the conflict's resolution in "God Bless Dancouga." The resolution of her possession and restoration to normalcy contribute directly to the OVA's narrative conclusion.
