Description
Yurine Hanazono, a human witch, summoned the lamia Jashin-chan from Hell through a grimoire but cannot return her due to the missing reversal spell, leading to Jashin-chan's constant assassination attempts. They cohabitate in an apartment where Jashin-chan serves as her familiar, performing chores like cooking and cleaning.

Yurine sports dark red hair in pigtails with hair drills, red eyes, and a perpetually worn white eyepatch covering her functional left eye. Her style centers on gothic Lolita fashion, and she stands 162.5 cm tall. Her family operates the Hanazono Shrine in Shinjuku, where she occasionally works as a shrine maiden. This lineage grants sacred powers, enabling barrier creation—such as those repelling Jashin-chan—and ties to black market organ trafficking.

Cynical, ruthless, and cold, Yurine acts as an audience surrogate with sarcastic commentary on absurdities. She balances strictness with concealed care, forming friendships while self-identifying as "Zabiel the Black, Preacher of Evil"—a delusion of grandeur from childhood dictator aspirations. Her sadism manifests in brutal, creative punishments for Jashin-chan using diverse weapons, yet she protects vulnerable beings like Persephone II, Pino, and Kōji. Tsundere tendencies mask her rare acknowledgments of Jashin-chan’s merits.

Relationships remain multifaceted: a codependent, violent dynamic with Jashin-chan; friendships with Medusa and Minos forged after failed murder plots (Minos resides nearby); protective gestures toward Pekola, Poporon, and Pino; collaborations with icy demons Yusa and Kōji; and debt resolution by selling Jashin-chan to officer Mei Tachibana.

Despite humanity, Yurine wields supernatural abilities: superhuman strength (catching knives, immense jumps, hurling Jashin-chan great distances, sonic-boom snowballs); durability surviving lethal attacks like dropkicks; enhanced speed creating afterimages and disarming foes. Rarely used magic includes summoning, emergency materialization of a hidden room, and protective sleep circles. Her arsenal, opportunistically acquired, spans machetes, tridents, chainsaws, cross spears, axes, knuckles, tasers, and an anti-petrification bracelet negating Medusa’s gaze.

A Cultural Anthropology student working part-time at a costume café, Yurine is 19 per the manga’s 10th anniversary, not aging due to "warped manga logic." She relishes gory horror films and dreads cockroaches. Subtle development includes recognizing Jashin-chan’s virtues and bonding with supernatural entities, though core traits—cynical narration, violent discipline toward Jashin-chan, and demonic power ambitions—persist.
