Description
Kaoru Takei is a supporting character in Farewell, My Dear Cramer. He is a first-year student attending Warabi Seinan High School and a member of the school's boys' football team, where he plays as a forward. He has long, light-brown hair with bangs swept to the left and light-brown eyes. His nickname is Take.

In his early years, Kaoru and his childhood friend Tetsuji Yamada played football together before meeting Nozomi Onda in elementary school. The two boys invited her to join their junior football league, and the three of them later attended Fuji Daiichi Middle School together, continuing to play football. During this time on the Fuji Boys soccer team, Kaoru played alongside Nozomi and her brother, Junpei Onda.

Kaoru is generally a laid-back and relaxed young man. However, he demonstrates a capacity for seriousness, particularly when it comes to his feelings for Nozomi Onda. He harbors an unrequited romantic interest in her, which fuels a more committed and fierce side of his personality. He is a talented athlete whose experience playing alongside Nozomi gives him insight into her abilities and determination.

His primary motivation is closely tied to his long-standing connection with Nozomi and his friends. In the events of Sayonara, Football, he actively supports Nozomi's efforts to be selected for a newcomers' tournament. When he realizes she has taken her brother Junpei's place in the competition, his concern for her physical safety becomes evident, showing a protective side. He values the bonds formed through football, which have connected him to his closest friends since childhood.

Within the story, Kaoru serves as a character from Nozomi Onda's past who reappears to observe her progress. He watches the Warabi Seinan girls' team play a practice match against Kunogi Gakuen High School and makes an observation about their performance, though he seems unaware of their emotional state after the game. He is later seen in the audience at the Saitama Preliminaries alongside Yasuaki Tani, Tetsuji Yamada, and Junpei Onda, spectating the tournament.

His key relationships define his role in the narrative. His most significant connection is with Nozomi Onda, whom he has known since elementary school and for whom he holds romantic feelings. He is also close friends with Tetsuji Yamada, a bond that dates back to their earliest days playing football together. He shares a past as a teammate with Junpei Onda on the Fuji Boys team, and Kouzou Samejima was their coach at that time. On the Warabi Seinan boys' team, his teammates include his childhood friends Tetsuji Yamada and Yasuaki Tani.

In terms of development, Kaoru's character remains relatively consistent, defined by his transition from an active participant in Nozomi's football journey as a childhood teammate to a supportive observer from the sidelines. His concern for Nozomi's well-being in a competitive environment highlights that his feelings for her have grown beyond simple friendship. As a forward, his notable ability is his offensive play on the football pitch, and his experience playing on a co-ed team from a young age has given him a unique perspective on the sport. He is also noted as someone who enjoys being in the spotlight.
