Goro Otaki is a chief inspector for the Osaka Prefectural Police. He shares a close bond with his superior, Heizo Hattori, and maintains good relations with officer Ginshiro Toyama. Heiji affectionately calls him "Otaki-han," while Otaki uses the nickname "Hei-chan" for Heiji. He interacts with Kazuha Toyama, who uses "Otaki-han" or "Otaki-san," and he calls her "Kazuha-chan." He collaborates with colleagues from other prefectures, such as Tokyo's Wataru Takagi, whom he addresses as "Takagi-san." Otaki is willing to take personal responsibility, demonstrated when Ginshiro Toyama reprimanded him during the Detective Play Murder Case for actively preventing a suspect's suicide. His interaction with Conan Edogawa is formal; Conan uses "Inspector Otaki" (Otaki-keibu), while Otaki typically calls Conan "boy" (bozo). Otaki addresses Kogoro Mouri as "Mouri-san" or the Osaka-style "Mouri-han."
