Tokimi is one of three omnidimensional sister goddesses, the Choushin, alongside Washu and Tsunami, who together created the universe and its countless dimensions. For millennia, her driving purpose has been to discover a being more powerful than the Choushin by generating abnormalities in the universal fabric, twisting subspace fields, and triggering cosmic anomalies that move galaxies and warp the fabric of space.
She employed various agents in her experiments, including Dr. Clay, whom she commanded to abduct Washu for study. When his ulterior motives surfaced, she compelled the dimensional supervisor D3 to erase all memory of their dealings. Another subject was the being known as Z, who acquired immense power—including the ability to manifest Light Hawk Wings—through one of her manipulations. Tokimi took Z as a servant but grew frustrated by his instability, prompting her to wonder whether her sisters had located a superior candidate.
This curiosity drew her attention to Tenchi Masaki, whom her sisters were observing. She instructed Z to observe Tenchi without interference, but Z perceived him as a threat and attempted to assassinate him. Their clash reached its peak near Saturn, where Z almost killed Tenchi before Tokimi intervened. Anticipating this, Z had enlisted the aid of the “Counter-Actor,” a sentient counter-force to the Choushin that took the form of a mad Empress Misaki Masaki Jurai. This entity assailed Tokimi during the sisters’ joint effort to contain Tenchi’s rampaging divine power, which endangered all of existence. Tokimi was rescued when Tenchi’s higher self emerged, soothing the Counter-Actor and averting disaster.
After these events, Tokimi expressed regret for her impersonal treatment of Z. She restored his life and the lives of those he loved, returning them to normal human existence and releasing them into their happiest time and place, expressing a hope that they might meet again. She then began spending more time in the lower dimension, frequently adopting a smaller, childlike “chibi” form. In this guise, she revealed a friendlier, more ironic and carefree nature as she observed the daily life of the Masaki household.
She attended the wedding of Nobuyuki and Rea Masaki, seating herself in the “resident kami” section of the family shrine. She declared it the rightful place for a goddess and hinted at a secret purpose for her presence. Some fans theorize this was to bless the couple with a child—their son Kenshi Masaki, who some believe may be a reincarnation of Z. This idea is bolstered by her later role in sending Kenshi to the world of Geminar, a place thought to be the origin of one of his parents and possibly Z’s homeworld. Before he departed, she bestowed a powerful gift upon him, sending a heart-shaped charm into his body meant to aid him when necessary, potentially granting the momentary ability to generate a Light Hawk Sword. She promised to save his life and return him home if he ever faced death, under the condition that he could never go back to Geminar.
Tokimi is regarded as the most powerful of the Choushin, demonstrated by her capacity to sever both Washu and Tsunami from their power, a duty assigned to her as they operated in a lower dimension. She is also identified as the Battlemaster of the Choushin, presumed to be their most skilled combatant. It is anticipated that, in time, Washu and Tsunami will persuade her to fully descend to their dimension. Her personality is expected to shift temporarily into that of a stubborn “little sister” before she settles into a calmer enjoyment of her new existence.
